    Default Golf Mats

    G'day guys ...

Looking at getting a mat as our lockdown looks like it's gonna drag a bit ...

Unlikely I'll find a mat 2nd hand locally, so looking at the below options for the garage ... Anyone purchased or know these mats for quality and whether they are worth dropping the coin on ?

    Option 1 - $299pp

    http://www.globalgolfproducts.spiffy...ality-golf-mat

Option 2 - $399pp (Is it worth the extra $100 for the "3D" cushioning ?)

    http://www.globalgolfproducts.spiffy...ty-3d-golf-mat

Anyhoooo ... slowly going mad not being able to swing a club haha, most prob p!ssing money up the wall buying one of these ! Hence why asking before doing so.

    Any advice/opinions appreciated !

    Cheers.

marktheblake posted a source for some in a thread within the last year or so. Maybe you can find the relevant thread.

Deester... not directly answering your question... but during lockdown for us last year I got a second hand mat from the local driving range. Had one hole in it (hence why they replaced it) so was good for 3 more rotations! $150 and it's excellent. May not be an option for you, but just in case it helps and you have something near by.

Get the little 3 way mat for 80 bucks , so you can test which surface you like before shelling out $300

I use mine couple times a week. Whilst all very differrent feeling all 3 are good to hit from.

I have the tee turf model. I got the smallest one then built up around it using exercise mats.

Can not fault the mat at all. Planning on buying a large one depending what the tax return says.

Could you glue synthetic turf to these exercise mats? I have some leftover turf on a roll from my putting green, that I could potentially use for a mat.

i do that but havent glued anything. In fact the surface is not that bad to hit off with the rubber stuff underneath.

I have hit balls directly off exercise mats and it is fine although it depends on the quality of the mat.

I had a cheaper mat which was essentially carpet glued to a rubber/foam type thing, the glue broke down eventually so that would be the main concern.

I have slowly been researching my DIY mat. It was starting to look like it was getting too expensive, as even though I already have the synthetic grass (fringe not putting green height), getting rubber mats from Bunnings was looking like going over $100. Yesterday, I checked FB Marketplace and found a couple of lightly used driving range mats for $130 -$150, so I was going to head in that direction, until I revisited some OZgolf threads.

As a result, I got some cheap floor mats ($20) from Big W plus some adhesive spray ($12) to stick them to the grass. I started on this yesterday, but only got two and 3/4 mats sticking before I ran out of the adhesive. I'll try to pick up some today to continue the job.

Put something softer under the hitting area. I dunno what. You you might be able to slow this down and work it out

Why do I need something softer? My hitting area won't be on concrete, so I think the mats that I already have should be good enough to put on grass or my putting green.

I posted that before i saw your photos. I thought you were making a mat to hit off.
I have the same hitting mat as you, and the exact same setup to stand on, except i glued nothing. But i need to come up with something to keep the little hitting mat still.

    Carry on.

The plan is to have the 1.2 x 1.2m hitting mat, but then cut out an area for one of the hitting strips to be placed into. The long term plan, if needed, would be to have a hitting strip that absorbs the impact more, like Bushy has.

There is a good reason why Bushy needs that, and we dont have that problem.

I tried to do something to hold the mat in place but cutting out a section of the rubber underlay like you described and it fell apart, even though I am not Bushy

Looking at the job now, I can see that the stick between grass and mats is not great since the underside of the grass is ridged, so not enough contact to be a great hold. I'm not out of too much money if it doesn't work out anyway.

I have had a few practice hits into the net previously just hitting straight off the putting green. However, I have to use an old club for that, because of the sand within the green, which is dramatically marking up the face of the club.

    Google “Divot Action Mat”

I don’t use it anymore as I have a proper driving range mat.
