Sensible advice, in 2020 I paid the most I have ever paid for Driver ($880 for Titleist TSi3) and Fairway ($525 for Sim Ti).

The Driver was a cracker when I middled it, which unfortunately was only 10% of the time, thus it was onsold for $525, the Sim Ti Fairway is the best club I have ever purchased. It is an absolute rocket from ANY LIE.

Highly recommend to anyone who hasn't hit one, if you need something to smash out of reasonable rough, this club can do it and get you miles further down the fairway than a hybrid.

TL;DR - he says the differences between the previous models is miniscule and unless you're a fanboi or have $$$ you have top spend last few years models will do the same thing. Guessing he won't be getting Christmas cards from the marketing departments at the OEMs

How does it come up on greens though? If I reach a Par 5 in two will it run through the green every time?

based on the description of the club - out of the rough that will be a big yes. Low, hot and dead straight (just hope your face angle is square to target)

I have a Sim Max D 3wood that goes about 190 carry but lands soft. I have an M5 titanium that lands 200 but I can’t control it.

If I can control the landing and it goes 200 it would be worth a go

This is all from the fairway, not the tee

Buy a 5 wood. You might lose 5 metres, but the height will hold the greens. I ditched my m3 HL fairway for a srixon 5 wood, never looked back. Distance is only good if you can use it.

I have a SIM Ti - I prefer my Speedzone Tour off the fairways and through our patchy rough.

The Ti is almost as long as my Speedzone driver off the tee. If I played somewhere with shallow rough, it would be in the bag every round.

I put together a useable set for approx. 1k but i had a few clubs spare from my old bag... clubs that I'd never get rid of... Still its exxy compared to what i could get a decade ago on the used market.

    5-PW MP64 + R300 in as new condition - $450 pickup
917D in as new condition from Japan - $250 delivered
    50°, 54°, 60° Vokey SM8 used condition 7/10 - $150
Odyssey Stroke Lab Double Wide Putter 35" - $270

Clubs that stayed in the bag during the hiatus
    3W and 5W VSteel
Taylormade Rescue 21° (dont remember what year)

Out of interest I just specced a Taylormade Stealth using the 'My Stealth' customisation. With shaft upgrades etc. I maxxed it out at around $2k!
