Why not, that's what personal leave is for. They've accrued the leave through being loyal and not taking days off

There's been stories for days that Coles will be introducing purchasing limits again, but not because of panic buying. Their supply chains and own staff have been hit by covid (either themselves or as close contacts) and stock just can't get out as quickly as it's needed. Which will probably increase panic buying........

    Spot on

Supply chains are broken for food now - the impending AdBlue shortages are going to make it worse as well.

Who can remember, a few months ago, someone (a Pollie, can't remember who) saying that if we open up we could have 25k cases a day in NSW by the end of January?

Unfortunately and a complete mystery on where I've managed to become infected with this Virus.
My lifestyle in general is social distancing (doing it before it became a thing) from others so I'm a bit p!$$ed off I've managed to get it. Movements in the week before symptoms started Saturday afternoon was:
    Tues-Sat - Work
    Tues - Supermarket
Wed - ritual weekly Dinner at same Cafe
    Wed - Petrol Station
While restrictions have been relaxed in S.A I still wear a mask and sanitize hands when out amongst the great unwashed.
I'm leaning more towards catching it at work some how with the recent rise in positive cases.
Fortunately symptoms for me have been no worse than a fluu/cold (Double Vaxed no Booster). Being an asthmatic and not exactly young anymore I was always a little worried catching it.
4 days into quarantine I'm now looking to do some of those jobs around the house that just keep getting put off.

Hatchy, i hear you! I tested PCR positive yesterday, and like you am Robinson Crusoe most of the time. I work alone, just see 1 or 2 couriers a day for delivery or pickup. The cook has gone for a month, and kid is rarely home, so its a mystery. My timeline is like this.

FRI - go out to pub and casino with 3 lifetime friends havent seen for ages
SAT - play golf, got the sneezes, and it was cold and wet
SUN - started to cough a bit - one of my close friends also, plus muscle aches
    MON- got cold sweats, diarrhea
TUE - am fine, go to work, RAT negative
WED - my friend got positive PCR test, other 2 negative RAT
FRI - i got positive PCR.

So yeah, one would think we obviously both picked it up at the Casino from someone else, but my boss says 'nope'

I work in the Life Sciences (molecular biology ie cell, dna, virus), my boss and his family being researchers by nature they conduct their own deep analysis when they caught covid, and according to his experience and research, my timeline is too fast, meaning that I either caught it earlier than Friday. I do disagree and argue with my boss about lots of stuff (mostly philosophical), but on this one i do concede to his superior intellect

Bear in mind that a PCR test can result positive up to about 3 months after infection, possibly longer. I feel stupid now doing a test after I stopped being sick, now i have to isolate for 7 days, but i aint contagious.

The sequence of the symptoms are exactly the same as i get almost every year for as long as i remember, as soon as that feeling starts, i know it, and exactly how it will unfold. I had a worse dose of this one in March 2020, that wasnt Covid. I have a feeling i may have picked up Covid in the last few months without knowing, like most people, and what i got last week is just normal old flu or whatever i get that is recurring. Remember that the Omicron is more contagious but milder symptoms.

    Interesting.
My brother works for IMVS in the lab testing departments.
As oppossed to a bulk of the workers performing Lab testing that just follow the instructions on how to do, he's fully quailfied. Don't get him started on tests that Drs ask for that will not show what they are looking for are a merly fishing or putting paitents minds at rest asking for a test.
While incubation periods can be longer, the norm is around the 3-5 days for this virus and its strains according to his experince.
    Just for comparison symptoms time.
Saturday - stuffy and then runny nose
Sunday - high temp, sneezing and sore throat
Monday - high temp, sore throat and mild coffing later causing mucus on cheast and nose
Tuesday - the cough and mucus remain (Day of PCR)
Wednesday onwards only the mucus remains

I don't doubt the test resut is for other than having it now.
I also think catching it a work is the mostly place as we've had a fair bit of it go through the place. I've managed to dodge the close contact isolation bullet a number of times by the way they stretch the possible contact rules so no to lose a lot of the work force.

I knew IMVS people very well. but a few years ago all the researchers moved into a new building across the road, we no longer deal with IMVS specifically. We dont do business with clinical/path labs
what you say about your symptoms is interesting.
I didnt get any runny nose or sore throats*

I do cough, but is dry as, and i will continue to cough and wheeze/breathing spasms for a month. its happened to me like that since i was 19. I get by with overdosing on butter menthols day and night. sometimes feels like a razor blade in my larynx, probably because coughing myself raw.
It makes for huge fun at parties, if it happens when drinking i will spray the table, cant help it.

Last year the ENT guy said its the healthiest throat he ever seen despite me demonstrating multiple times that i choke on my own breath frequently. He thinks it might be reflux. Hence why i think my coughing is only because of that.

I have a legitimate question on this.

Do you feel like all your efforts to be restrictive are a bit pointless in the end then- or at least leaving you extremely frustrated?
Or do you feel like being vaccinated was a good thing and you’ll ditch all the protective measures now you’re full of antibodies?

I think it’s fascinating some of the evidence on those that do and don’t get sick regardless of their protective measures.

I’ve traveled domestically 200+ flights since the pandemic started, every state except WA, in and out of Melbourne and Sydney, through Canberra, Albury, Alice Springs, Adelaide and then there’s Brisbane and back every other week and all the little regional places I’ve been to in between.

Conventional wisdom would suggest that I’m a super spreader, yet I haven’t been sick and have only had two “contact events” which were both negative.

I think it’s interesting to see where people sit on the spectrum of protective measures and the relationship to positive and negative Covid tests.

Has it gone through the schools in Cairns? In late March we had over 50% of cases here in schools, and overall around 25% of the population has now reported testing positive.

Since school has gone back after holidays, the stats have levelled out to people getting it at work again. We have had almost no mask mandates except in schools, medical facilities and public transport this year.

My work is now finding that absenteeism is higher than normal, but more cold/flu than covid as workplaces open up. Anecdotally, the 'cold and flu' cases get significantly less sick than the proper covid cases.

Yeah - probably not as bad as a city but it was significant. My wife works at a school and they had a heap leading up to school holidays including teachers and students. The bigger schools too I believe.

St Andrew's, where my youngest is in grade 4, is a P-12 school of 1200+ students and has had up to 10% of students away due to Covid during term 1. Not sure how they have been travelling lately as we haven't had any recent feedback from the school. Some of the other Catholic schools haven't been sharing their Covid numbers and so we are left with only anecdotal information to go by.

Not pointless and I wasn't being restrictive with anything I did. Turns out I've been practicing social distancing for years before it became a thing.
Just unlucky to come in contact with it somehow and pissed off I got unlucky.
Being an asthmatic not being vaxed could have been a lot more serious. Wont be ditching self controllable protective measures.

As far as I know, I've managed to avoid this thing for the nearly three years that it has been around...until now. A positive test a few days out from Christmas. FFS!

What difference does it make? I got tested, so I can decide whether to WFH or office for the rest of the week, and so the relatives (several over 70) that I planned to see over the weekend can be informed and make a risk assessment for themselves.

Yes, introvert me is not disappointed in missing today's work party and wouldn't be overly concerned about missing a big family lunch on the wife's side. No symptoms on Sunday, yet the worst symptoms on Monday, and easing off since. It is considered mild however, but still not much fun.
