I had AZ. Got knocked out the next day from the first one, but was ok after that. Second one didn't bother me.

US flu deaths average 35k a year. Covid deaths over about 18 months is 600k plus (that we know of. Don't forget that going to hospital in the US financially breaks people, so plenty don't). Big difference between this and the flu. Because of our attemps to reach/stay at covid zero, we haven't felt the full effects of what it can do.

Same as Goughy, but being in NSW I wasn't locked down properly so not sure if that changed my outcome

Interesting perspective from a 21yo super fit semi-professional skateboarder who got it.

I didn't think people getting really sick because of COVID was being disputed.

How about this for an option,

If there were enough vaccinations so that anybody could just rock down to their local chemist/GP and have the vaccination and any time they wanted, would this be a suitable reason to remove all the lockdowns. Those of you who don't want to get vaccinated or believe this is some kind of conspiracy are more than welcome to not have the vaccination and risk the chance of perishing with a respiratory illness or getting stupidly sick with the flu. Or, maybe these people are correct and that will only get the sniffles for a couple of days and they will be right as rain.

This way, it becomes a issue of choice and the rest of us can get on with our lives.

The main problem with this will be that the hospitals will be absolutely smashed with everybody from hypochondriacs to the chronically ill and doctors will have to make choices on who lives and dies. Or maybe they won't.

The point being, is there is enough vaccinations for everybody if you wish to take it.

That is the whole problem! There isn't. Well, there is, but multple levels of govt f'ed up AZ. So it's pointless until there is enough for everyone, and there won't be for ages still. And as you said, can the hospital system cope? The vaccine rollout isn't a race, it's a shamozzle and that is what's holding everything back. Until then, lockdowns will persist.

This virus is unrelenting, insidious, and extremely difficult to prevent the spread of. I am glad I am not in health policy - but I trust that the people out there are making decisions for the common good, at the expense of the individual desire.

Just watching about Iceland, which is at over 90% vaccinated, and removed restrictions a few months ago. At the moment there USA is at an infection rate of 230 per 100000 people, and Iceland is currently at 205 per 100000 people, even with their high vaccination rate. And they've just reintroduced mandatory mask wearing, social distancing and capacity limits. What they have had though is low hospitalization rates and no deaths since May.

Now read about the US Gulf Coast. No ICU beds and low vaccination rates

I agree that once everyone has access to the vaccinations we should open up. I would also say that those that choose not to vaccinate sign a document to say they have chosen not to vaccinate and therfore refuse treatment, that should help free hospital space.

I was sort of hoping that with everyone who wants to get vaccinated done... then the death rate would come down to something more like a normal flu pandemic.

And also - we are only going to lose the Sky News watching public - so no great loss.

Nah, I get a daily feed from Yahoo and it caught my eye so I watched the video and had a laugh at his followers booing him.

I've got some good mates who live in West Coast states so I'm interested in what's going on over there.

FTFY - It seems that Australians haven't got a clue what identity politics looks like and how bad it is. Even when it's staring them right in the face.
