    Default G'day from St.Marys Tasmania

G'day all . Been looking to join an Aussie golf forum for a while now and ozgolf looks great .. I have played the great game since 1974 beginning as a junior member at StMarys Golf and Bowls Club ,now called St.Marys Sports Centre Golf Club . That said I've played very little golf since 2012 but in recent months the fire to play again has returned with a vengeance . Gee I'm having a ball again rediscovering this wonderful game .
Currently using my 20 year old King irons and Nicklaus metal woods but hope to upgrade at some stage . Our club has also been in the doldrums and all but closed until a couple of years ago with only lawn bowls keeping us functioning . Now though we have established a keen core group of players and thanks to some tireless work by an intrepid crew the Par 67 9 green and 18 tee 4875 metres (5295 yards) course has returned to it's former glory .

The course is right in town opposite the District School with about 400 kids and the recreation and camping ground is right adjacent to the compact course and green fees of $10 for the day or $20 for the week are continuing to increase .

Some of us are now going through Golf link to get our handicaps re established and we have re affiliated under Golf Australia to host events as time goes on . On handicap . My first card in 9 years returned me an 85 with our CCR being 65.1 so to say I'm rusty is an understatement and a very far cry from my younger days that got me to 6 handicap ..That said I'm having an absolute ball and enjoying every second of being back in the fold again . I hope I can contribute in a worthwhile way to the ozgolf forum community ...Cheers to all ..

Hi leftyrod. Welcome to the forum, and welcome back to the game. It's good to have another Tasmanian here; we've got a few around, but not too many.

Welcome, great to hear about golf clubs being reincarnated instead of closed.

Thanks ...I'm not a big distance from Barnbougle and a good friend recently invited me to join him for a visit later on . In the meantime I want to see if I can gradually improve my game but if I can't there'll be no sleep lost . My biggest issue was a nasty fall off a ladder that stuffed my left arm . Had no chance of swinging a club for a while but now I can again . It's really fun to bet the old sticks swishing again ..Thanks again ..

That’s a nice idea but not a prerequisite.

    Welcome leftyrod.

    Welcome leftyrod!

The first thing you need to do is upgrade your gear... even some 5 year old second hand stuff will be a massive improvement. Club tech has come a long way!

    Welcome, leftyrod.

Golf is, in part, a game; but only in part. It is also in part a religion, a fever, a vice, a mirage, a frenzy, a fear, an abscess, a joy, a thrill, a pest, a disease, an uplift, a brooding, a melancholy, a dream of yesterday and a hope for tomorrow. - New York Tribune, 1916.
