Thread: Hunter Valley

    Default Hunter Valley

    Hi all,
Planning a trip to the Hunter Valley with some mates to play some golf. Keen to get your thoughts on whether the drive to Newcastle GC is worth it. We will be playing the Vintage and looking for options beyond Cypress and the one at Crown as the second track.
    Cheers,
    HPS

Newcastle GC is the best rated course in the area. It will be worth it.

Cypress is mint at the moment.

Newcastle is still recovering slightly from the floods about 5 weeks ago, as the water table is still very high, but is still in great shape and worth the trip east 👍

Can't go too far wrong with Vintage, Cypress or Newcastle.

Haven't been down that way for a while, but would rate Newcastle GC and the Vintage as my two preferred options, but the last time I played Cypress it was in abysmal condition, so that probably biases me a bit. It has great bones for a course, and if the conditioning is back to a high standard, it is another great place to play.

Just be careful on distance, even amongst Sydney punters there seems a misconception that in a Hunter Valley trip, its easy to incorporate Newcastle GC or Pacific Dunes. They are an hour from the Vintage and the traffic is worse on weekends.

Play The Vintage, Cypress is OK but I would expect 5hr rounds on weekends, forget Crowne Plaza, its passable at best. Try and incorporate Newcastle coming to or leaving the HV.

Newcastle, Vintage, Pacific Dunes, Cypress, Horizons and Belmont the best in the area imo

Has Cypress picked up in conditioning? Played it three different times up until 10 years ago and it was always ordinary. Some good holes but just awful all around. I have never bothered going back for that reason

I am a member at Newcastle, quite a few members from here have played Cypress recently and reckon it's in good nick. I haven't played it in ages myself..

If the point of the mission is golf, I’d stay in Newcastle and play Newcastle and either or both of Pacific Dunes or Belmont.

IMO Newcastle has the better night out as well.

If the wineries etc are part of the reason for the the trip then sure, but otherwise I think it’s the wrong play.

Played Belmont a few months back and it was looking fantastic! Must be even better now that half of Sydney isnt up there!
