Default Joining a mid level golf club Sydney metro - which one ?

It's probably a thread that comes up a lot. But I guess times change with memberships becoming open and closed and special offers etc so here goes.

Looking for a golf club to join somewhere in Sydney metro. I live in Darlinghurst so easy to get onto M2 M4 via cross city tunnel eastern distributor etc. I don;t mind driving say 30-40 mins

Hope to avoid a joining fee and happy with 5 day membership as i play in a social group most Sundays. Mid level golf course as it will be once a fortnight max. Good pro and coaching facilities a definitely a plus as I'm looking to dramatically improve short game.

Thinking at the moment of having a hit at Cumberland Country Club to give that a try. They have no joining fee and special packages. East Lake is an option but i don't care for the walking distance to the tees.

Any other tips suggestions ? Thanks in advance

Cumberland is a decent track with some interesting holes and lots of elevation changes. Can get a bit boggy after rain. Is 5 day strictly Mon-Fri there or by special packages you mean you can choose your 5?

Having done it all my life I hate driving in Sydney more than most, 90 mins round trip to Cumberland to play wouldn't happen for me.

We played Masters Pennant at Eastlakes two years ago, I enjoyed the course, seems to have a small joining fee, not sure on practice facilities. Captain Nemo knows your area, I would go with him.

Unsure on the joining fee at Moore Park, they seem to have some "funky" categories but its a pretty reasonable course on your doorstep, and don' know the relationship between the driving range and the club.

Your Lord Mayor Clover and her crew seem to have it for the course but they will move on to attacking someone for unconscious bias or whatever else they invent shortly.

Yep East Lake is probably as good as Moore Park and significantly cheaper - just those damn walks over the footbridge etc ! but if it was perfect it would be a lot more expensive

Don't forget to factor in motorway tolls for playing at Sydney courses.

Playing twice a week at approx. $7 each way will cost you another $1,500 each year.

Wow- thanks Dotty. I reckon it will be twice a month - bit more during holiday periods. But really good point. That would be a criminal waste of money

I'm thinking East Lake might be the go. I can fit my diary around that Monday/Thursday deal and its 20 minutes from my home and no tolls

The oracle has spoken........and by jeebus, he is on the mark.

I am also one for costing my time, sitting in Sydney traffic, I would cost out at some massive fee, assuming you even put a $50 fee on your time, Dotty's sums look even worse.

Yeah but everyone in sydney gets paid lots of moolah to put up with that crap. Otherwise why would anyone live there.

Bit of an update here. I'm gonna try Strathfield. Its about 25 mins from home. I used to be a member before the big renovation - well back in 1994 to be accurate! - not a bad track back then presumably better now. Clubhouse is pretty impressive.

Membership - no joining fees applicable. I can get a two day per week membership pro-rata charge of only $365 to the end of June. After which i can get a full year of two day membership for $1230, or more likely i can go for full 7 day membership of $2550.https://www.strathfieldgolf.com.au/c...s/#memberships

Tell the club Captain you like having a punt on the trots and you barrack for St Kilda (he may give you a hug)

Not as much as what is touted by the majority

It's a Sydney thing, take your salary and add an extra zero on the end, everyone will assume you’re telling the truth

I could never imagine living there, good hard working and friendly ppl (bar the waterfront) but awfully overpriced. I honestly feel for anyone trying to make a decent living in the city, it would be tough
