Finally starting to do my own club work - regripping (good starting point I think)
Have got myself a re-grip kit and some grips.
Would like to get into club making.

I've been contemplating doing the same, as reliable club-fitters are hard to come by up here. Can you post what purchases you make, and what methods you trial/ use?

Hi,
I have been regripping my own club for ages. My method requires the following;
One normal golf tee. Normal masking tape. One full 4 litre can of Petrol (a lawnmower can). One small bottle of petrol. One old towel.
Simply put tape on club to desired thickness. Cover the top. Go further down the shaft with the tape than required. Put tee in end of grip. Pour a capful of petrol in grip and shake it all about while the taped club is immersed in the can.
Pull the club from can and pour the petrol in the grip back in the bottle. REMOVE TEE. Place clubhead against a wall and effortlessly slide grip on. Align any markers on the grip straight up the shaft. Wipe with towel then dry in sun. Ready to use the next day. Petrol Smell is gone within a few days. You can also use paint thinner.
What the petrol does in "eat" the one sided masking tape a bit and the grip becomes as solid as my third putt.
Be aware that there are two main sized grips (.58 and .60). It can be difficult to put a .58 grip on a clubshaft with a .60 Outer Diameter.
Regards
Hush
There is also a great thing called rubber cement. I tried doing it with fuel. Way too hard and messy.
Just a bif of masking tape on the club. Bit of glue into the grip using half a shaft and a little bit on the end of the shaft. Grip goes straight on and you have 5 minutes to work with it and get the alignment right. Grips are also easily saved then especially with an air compressor
Oh most of the pros and industry do it this way for repairs.
Air compressor. No Glue. Easy on and off.

Works fine. Do a search on golfwrx or bsg, somewhere has a step by step guide. Only time I have had an issue is if the grip balloons a bit (when you are not careful enough). Bit of bostik contact adhesive general fixes it, unless the grip is too stretched, then it is stuffed.

I am at a similar point chappy...have regripped a few of my own clubs and also build 6 sample 6 irons to see what effect head vs shaft has and get some experience with putting clubs together.
It is good fun...there is a lot to get into if you want to go full on with club making.
watched a trainee pro at Viccy Park do this way recently - effortless. to overcome the ballooning and stretching of the grip, he firstly placed a pvc tube over the grip. the tube was a couple of centimetres wider, and just longer than the grip. grip balloons to just to inside the tube. so simple!
Attachment 845In reference to PeterD, I am also waiting for the arrival of (see photo) regripper. I have a compressor and thought this would be a great addition and for $40 AUD including shipping form the US little to loose.
I bought 13 Sharpro Dual Performance grips (Blue and Black), I think once they are on they will look Sweeeeeeet.
Cheers

Pete,
I think that the standard practice with the air tool is to locate a piece of conduit a little larger than the grip over the top during the removal process, reduce the potential for bubbling and blowouts.

Where can we buy 2" width double sided grip tape (both water activated and solvent activated types) in Australia?
I used double sided carpet tape.
