I wonder if thats something to do with their cages. I go to the CP depot often (which is effing huge) and i can see their cages, which look too small for golf club boxes, so maybe they have to be manually outsorted and get held. I will find out.

I ship lots GC to Sydney with CP, always delivered next day, Melbourne is 2 days.

BTW, shipping by road to/from WA at the moment is chaos, so expect delays.

Thanks I might use this if Auspost reject my packages as Auspost is about 40% cheaper for these packages, well mainly one of them.

Any thoughts on LPO vs Auspost Shop anyone?

Sorry, if I choose Startrack the cost is more than double parcel post.

You are correct the auspost cages only take 110cm from memory

One is in a box that was sent to me a few weeks ago via Auspost, and I have shortened to 106cm, the other will be about 110cm
I have offered this advice before, but a (golfing) friend who works for Aus Post said to NEVER try to slip through a golf club that is longer than 105cms.

The reason is that longer parcels will not lie flat in the trucking container and could potentially have heavier parcels stacked on top (which is not good for graphite shafts in particular). Further, you would probably lose any claim for insurance if it is shown that the parcel breaches the length rules.

I questioned the insurance bit, particularly if an Aus Post person has accepted it in the first place, but basically I gather that Aus Post will just say "So sue us" and work on the assumption that no-one is going to bother.

Does AusPost just not accept items over 110cm or thereabouts anymore?

I have been to both the small AusPost (privately run) and the big LPO and both say no.

Pretty much. It used to be a 70/30 split of would take / wouldn't.

Now I believe it's flipped the other way.

I thought that had been the case, technically, for a long time now? But that you just lucked out at some smaller PO's.

I used an LPO near me for ages but last time I was there with a 114cm parcel they told me Aus Post had clamped down and their max was 110.

They took it but asked me to put my mobile # on the box in case it was rejected.

I guess I won't be sending anything longer than a shaft anymore....

Cheapest quote I have received so far is $115. $1 per cm

As per my comment above back in December, the containers that Aus Post used in their trucks are not setup to handle parcels that long, and the risk of damage is very high (relatively to volume of parcels).

Yes, we have all gotten away with sneaking through overlength parcels, but there has been a crackdown recently mainly (as I am told) because there has been a spike in complaints from people that their overlength parcels were damaged ...

IMO pretty silly restriction though. The largest courier in the country can't handle anything over 105cm in length? I am not aware of any other carrier that has such a restriction.

Sheezy. I did a quote on this box from GC To Darwin and its TNT $39, COuriers please $54 Aramex $ 64, I cant do quotes ex darwin, too much mucking about with my account) but you get the idea. I cant imagine the Darwin tax will be that much different.Suggest go to Sendle and see what options they have for you, as they are a broker like i use and they check rates from everywhere.

Hi mate, thanks for checking! So there must be something funny going on, as still not having any luck.
Sendle when plugging in those same details in the Instant Postage Calculator gives the message; "We're sorry this route is not yet available. Either the pickup address or destination is beyond our current reach."

Check where their depots are. You should be able to drop it close locally.

I remember a backhoe cut a cable near Katherine that apparently was Darwins sole link to the rest of Australia at that time. For about 3 hours total silence, all banks, Tab offline, phones/faxes out, nothing. We thought the world had ended. But gee, that was once, Darwin aint Rabbit Flat.

Can also try E-Go.com.au for a quote. I used to send all my golf stuff by them, and the have depot in Darwin. You can save 10 or 20% by drop off at depot too. They can be slow, but their differnce is they carry all the bulky crap nobody else will.

Guys you are all champions and thanks for trying to help out!

Tried that e-go site as well. $254, depot to deposit (same post codes as above as a test).
I think it'll be cheaper to send stuff to SE Asia, since we are closer to there than the rest of Australia!

    Crikey!
I would have thought freigh ex darwin would be cheap, as generally there is a lot less stuff leaving. I recall lots of adverts for cheap backloading south.

There is another service that uses Greyhound bus network. Dig through this thread, might come up.

Jeez been a while since I've posted on here!

I might have a few options for freight, good timing as I'm thinking of starting a small parcel sending business. My main business (printing & signage) we send stuff all over the place for customers and have gotten quite good at it!

Through my freight companies through work 115cm x 12cm x 12cm Box Darwin to Bankstown via Road Express freight works out to about $38. It appears I can book it for collection remotely and email through a shipping label. Happy to explore it as an option?

I used to use Interparcel for pickups and PacknSend for dropoffs.

Don't use the PacknSend full service. It is triple the price.

They will accept long packages but make sure your measurements are accurate as PacknSend will often measure them.

However, now I just use Sendle because they have a drop-off location just around the corner. Never had any problems with length and they are cheaper than OzPost.

IMHO it isn't worth the hassle of waiting around for couriers to pick up.

International shipping is more of a problem. The discount couriers are just as expensive as Fedex or DHL when sending stuff overseas.

MyUS used to be the best deal for shipping packages to Australia from the States but they have recently changed their fees and it has become uneconomic unless you are getting really big savings like iron sets direct from PXG.
