    Default Afl 2021

Time to start the thread for another year of uncertainty in the the COVID-19 climate.

Not that any/many may care. The AFWL season had just commenced and is now thrown in disarray with what's happened in W.A (tag it's your turn for restrictions and lock down(s)).
AFL HQ and all the Clubs that went into debt last year to keep going will be very nervous as to how it all unfolds from here.

Until games actually start and there is something to discuss I'll leave everyone this that gave me a good old chuckle.

We use to fly with pride and flight
Under the leadership of Malcolm blight
Pykey then left and not a Moment to soon
I bet he's pissing himself watching us Win a spoon
Our players are as useless as a bag of dicks
Due to the genius that is Matthew nicks
These times are tough but are made to bind us
I can’t believe our coach is worse than Matthew Primus

Interested to see how Joe Daniher goes this year, and hoping the lions can go one better too. Will probably try to get to a few games as well.

I cannot believe how bias the umpiring has been against the Navy Blues. Blues backman never had control of the ball, over the line yet it's called deliberate, later the Richmond backman stops his play and falls over the line, no call.

Silvagni chases down player and tackles him to ground, play on ad, ball turns over and when umpire questioned 'he didn't ground him enough'.

As a Carlton supporter it was bloody frustrating. We still won the free kick count quite convincingly but it's the ones that cost you goals that give you the shits.

The league has been struggling with umpiring inconsistency's for years, yet every season they're determined to make the umpires job even harder with new rules and interpretations

This standing the mark rule is ridiculous. The players look very confused, when they can actually move.

The game last night, it seemed you were better off not standing the mark, just hover a few meters behind it..

Great win from the Crows this arvo. Held off the cats run home, very impressed with the effort and energy.

I don't mind the standing the mark rule. It's a mark, not an area, they should never have been allowed to wander around all over the place, although they never really did that until about 15-20 years ago anyway so it's only going back to what used to happen. There hasn't been the avalanche of 50m penalties from it that some feared either so they have adapted well for the most part.

Personally I like the more open free flowing game, it's what drew me into it as a kid and it's far more enjoyable to watch than 30 million players within 20m of the ball following it all over the field like under 10s. I hope it keeps up across the season

What games I did see over the round all looked to to be played a faster pace and a lot less rolling mauls.
Games are better to watch like this.

Let's see if round one is an outlier.

It will be interesting to watch how it evolves.
Atm most seem to be playing on now the man on the mark can't move off the spot until the ump calls play on or the ball is disposed of. The game for now seems to be more attacking which is better to watch.

Really thought Carlton were on the rise and would roll the Pies with their off field distractions.

I thought Carlton would win too. A Carlton supporting workmate doesn't rate Teague, so maybe he is right.

So did I. At least I was close to the margin guessing 20 points even though I picked the wrong team. It was a good game to watch though, good to see some one on one contests coming back with the faster ball movement.

I remember when Teague wasn't coach, Cripps used to look like a midfield beast. Instead they played him at full forward where had zero impact. Unless he turns things around soon, he is my current favourite as 'first to go in 2021'. Leon Cameron can join him with a poor loss on sunday v a badly undermanned Freo.

Rule changes have hurt cripps more than Teague. Stoppage game suited him.

I think Cripps has been worn out and banged up before his time carrying a crap Carlton for a number of years. I'd suggest they think he could be a Dusty or Dangerfield in the forward line but I don't think he has that in his trick bag. If he's too banged up and slow to play the faster ball movement game what do they do with him? I tip he'll be going back home in the West at years end.

Agree Hatch, I don't follow the Blues, but Cripps will eventually play 100 games less than he should, due to the punishment he puts his body through

You mean Geelong gifted, which happens often.

There were bad decisions both ways but that one at the end was holding the ball every day of the week and twice on Sundays. Absolute rubbish non decision. That one with Tuohy I didn't think was holding it though. Brisbane weren't at their best and they could have been ahead earlier if they'd kicked straigher but it was a great effort to get back into it and get the lead late, and poor kicking doesn't excuse a nonsense decision that would have won us the game. Oh well. Can't do much about it now

My interpretation was that it was incorrect disposal, and I believe that is the view of most experts.

Was a big miss from the umps
