Scottt and Matt Mollica's latest podcast talking to Mat Goggin about 7 Mile. Think they are doing a terrific job for a couple of blokes who have not much experience with the medium, what does come through is their genuine excitement about the topic.

I already like Hobart but when this and North Arm get going, it will be the destination.

Yep Pete, North Arm Cove near Hawks Nest is a fair hike. Suspect I won't make it as an influencer.

Arm End have also had a change in Architects, with OCM taking over from Crafter Mogford.

I'm still not convinced it will go ahead, a lot more hurdles than 7 mile.

Only found out recently that the Casino course in Launy is undergoing a re-design by Beau Welling, a architect partner of Tiger Woods. Don't think they are far down the track, but interesting selection.

Is there another course being built near the 7 mile beach course at 5 mile beach? Or did I not read the article correctly?

They've got the first government approval for it, but the main approvals are still to come. Might be a year or 2 before it starts.

Unfortunate that they've had some decent delays (and vandalism).

They're membership proposal is interesting, limited numbers and decently higher price than Tas or RH.

I'm really hoping the super large putting and short game area comes to fruition.

Goggin was talking about the second course on the northern side, green fees under $200Aud, and the place as a destination. Add in rounds at RH, Tasmania, Llanherne and you have a cracking week lined up

Yeah 5 mile will get up, I think with the uncertainty with Arm End they'll get the push for the other course to make the trip more worthwhile.

Listening to AGP podcast they mentioned that Hobart having world class course/s could really hurt King Island, as the temptation for return travel will generally go to easier to access locations rather than off the beaten track places like KI.

Speaking of Tasmania GC, we've just got a new super who had been working on Seven Mile. Already some good changes with tree and understory clearing opening it up, still no work when road works will take place though.

Can’t wait. Just a shame the opening has been pushed back to Nov next year.
Cinderella story, out of nowhere, former greenskeeper, now about to become a Masters champion..... It looks like a mirac.. It's in the hole! It's in the hole!

What's the roadworks? Something that will affect the course?

That's where I played most of my early golf but haven't played it since the early 90's.

    Missed this.

Road between the airport and eventually Sorell to be duplicated, inlcuding the causeways. Hardest part to manage will be the road alongside Barilla Bay and Tas GC. But the works have been put back again, it may start later this year.
The plans mean a singular entrance for Barilla Bay and Tas GC with a drive that would go alongside where the existing 5th (old 16th) is. 5th to become a part 4 that will go down over where the dam is atm.
Some Master Plan works are already in the works. 9's flipped and new front nine changed the order of holes with old 12 (3) going to old 15 (4). 14 (old 5th) tee has been widened. 17th (old has had all the surrounds of the green (bunkers etc) re-done, includes having a new bunker short right and no bunker on the right side of the green, bunkers on the left have also been moved and reshaped. 18th (old 9) tee box also cleaned up and more intergrated with the back of 17.

    7 Mile update.

11 holes in play approx November, PtP probably knows better than I do about which holes they are. Limited numbers, but all day play available.
Looks like the facilities will be much like St Andrews beach have been to start.

Putting in plans for Council Approval for 5mile as well.

I saw a few greens just like that in North Ireland. Seems that they are always look much more intimidating than they really are. Thats great design skills.

5 Mile Beach has got council approval.

Their insta story when approval came through indicated that Rob Collins from King Collins design was taking a look at it, they did Sweetens Cove.

Is 5 Mile beach on the same peninsula as 7 mile beach? Which is a long way from Arm End?

Yeah same sand spit east of the Airport. 7 mile is the Federick Henry back/ocean side, 5 mile is the Pittwater/estuary side. They will be side by side.

Arm End is at the end of the South Arm peninsula that looks towards the city, if it gets up you could possibly take a boat from the centre of Hobart and arrive at the course in 30 mins.
If you look at Google Maps you can see that some of the holes have been mown, but there hasn't been much other action.

Likely to be known as Five Mile Beach, a second new golf course was unanimously approved by all but one Clarence councillor yesterday, “who abstained due to a ‘moral opposition’ to the sport of golf.”
This Clarence councillor probably plays the sport and hates it like Lefty.

Arm end is looking a little closer to getting started. The underwater pipeline from Blackmans Bay to South Arm carrying recycled water is being completed.
This pipeline is the only way this course can be considered, the South Arm area is probably the driest place in Tasmania. Apparently the ownership/running of the golf project is still a bit of a shit fight, too many cooks etc.

Saw on Insta that 7 mile has cut its first pin, so looking good for some golf later this year. They have also started clearing and burning off for 5 mile.
