If they're both switched on tomorrow it will be a cracking final group. I really want Speith to keep it going. Hard not to get pumped up when he's sinking those putts, and the crowd (small as it is) adds to that.

I have no issue with this, from a 'purist' perspective. Every caddy has a book with a distance from everywhere. The days of judging distance by eye are well and truly over.

My only problem is the same problem I have with green reading books. It is another item of information that must be processed before the decision is made. It will probably slow the game down further rather than speed it up.

I'm expecting Robert Allenby will hate it. How can he blame his caddy for giving him the wrong distance if he has measured it himself? Maybe he'll blame the Garmin, which would be interesting if he has a Garmin patch on his shirt.

It is the caddies job to measure the tree or stand behind the green

Patrick Reed will use the model that measures slope.

I would have thought he'd used the enhanced model that measures moisture content in soil

I saw that, in the five minutes of viewing before I turned it off. Mack was dressed in a similar way last year. It is clearly one of his gimmicks.

The event should be quite interesting, and more watchable this year with no celebrities. I'm hopeful that we'll see more of Spyglass. It's a course that we never see much of, but with only two courses, and frankly, quite a weak field, they might follow a feature group at Spyglass rather than just stay at Pebble.

One thing I'm sure of: we'll still get tons of shots of dogs running on the beach, and seals on the rocks, and hopefully otters floating on the clumps of seaweed.

I think Paul Casey is my new favourite player.

Whilst clearly Pros need to maintain an incredible focus, he just appears to really enjoy his time out there, always smiling and continually having a laugh with his caddy. Big fan

In stark contrast to Brooks Koepka, who often has face on him like a dog $h!tting razor blades.

Casey is only smiling when he is playing well.

I followed his group at the Northern Trust in 18, and got close enough to eavesdrop. He was a happy chappy when he was 4 under after 7, but he started to leak shots on the back, and his entire demeanor changed. His caddy tried to boost him, but he was more interested in having a whinge about getting a bad lie or misreading a putt. Eventually the caddy stopped talking to him.

Its the sort of thing you only get to observe by going to a tournament, and one of the reasons why I always encourage people to go to the Aussie events (when/if they resume).

Having said that, when he is playing well, he's a great player to watch. He absolutely flushed everything for a while when I watched him.

When watching this event so far, I'm concentrating on the big issues, though. Why is Nick Faldo growing 70's style sideburns? Why has Hunter Mahan gone full 70's rock star with his hairstyle? And why is John Daly going for the Santa Claus or Kenny Rogers look?

That’s probably why he’s so much more successful than Casey. Unfortunately - kids will see Koepka’s 4 majors to Casey’s 0 and want to be more like Brookes.

    Yea I get that mate.

I'm cognicent of what kids see, and I sincerely hope they see that life is short, laugh often. You don't have to be a cyborg to be successful

I'd suggest anyone down to 9under can win. If the wind stays up it's tuff

Whether it was a choke or not is arguable, but shooting 10 under in rd 3 of the WM event, then shooting 1 over in rd 4 to finish 4th, probably wasn't the result he was hoping for

I’d wager, given his play this week, they’d have been more please with the ‘process’ and it’s impact long term rather than winning last week.

3 early bogeys but from the 12th he was solid. His tee shot on 15 was 5 yards left of where he needed. And on 17 he was so unlucky. He was still striping irons on 15,16 and 18.
