Golf is, in part, a game; but only in part. It is also in part a religion, a fever, a vice, a mirage, a frenzy, a fear, an abscess, a joy, a thrill, a pest, a disease, an uplift, a brooding, a melancholy, a dream of yesterday and a hope for tomorrow. - New York Tribune, 1916.

Another course that I hadn't played for 8 years, but my first comp at Ashgrove yesterday. It is a bit of a strange layout, and a bit tight at times, but that's because there isn't really enough land for 18 holes. Not a bad place to play though, and the condition was pretty good.

There’s a lot to like about that list. How was Lonsdale? I’ve only made it as far as their Instagram page but it looks sensational.
Cinderella story, out of nowhere, former greenskeeper, now about to become a Masters champion..... It looks like a mirac.. It's in the hole! It's in the hole!

My firstly play there was about 20 years ago. I hadn't played there for about 18 months and I was bouncing when I walked off. The greens were the best conditioned I'd ever played on anywhere, could not wait to go round again

Lonsdale is very very good. Holes 5 and 9 were the only ho hum moments, lots of clever design features that grab your attention, many of which I'm sure I missed and would take repeated plays to reveal themselves. The template holes were generally done well, The Eden being the only big disappointment, The Redan ok but like many others I've played nowhere near the complete characteristics of the North Berwick hole.

Normally get above 30 done but lack of trips and lack of interest has been an issue, reckon I will struggle to hit 10.

First time I've been at MWP for 11 years, thanks to an invite from andylo. It's a fun course, and was quite friendly from the white tees. The greens had a strange fluffiness, but it was good condition overall, except for one hole which was very wet.

Thats becoming quite a list of a specific "genre" of SEQ courses Andy! Its like you are making that a goal for the year.

What's the genre? I'm just doing some revisting, as most of the courses I hadn't played for 10 years or more. I'd like to play courses that I haven't played before, but there aren't many that are close enough.

Lets just say if snobs are comparing golf courses to eating out, all of those are pub counter meals as opposed to dining at the Ritz. Dont get me wrong, i would rather play the same list

Always seems like a good idea in the spring/autumn Halfer, then winter hits and the punters drivel on about AFL ad nauseam, its worse than water torture. May-September its the worlds most unlivable city*.
