Default 2021: How many different courses have you played this year?

I'll make an early start to this year's thread, after playing at Beaudesert for the first time.

    1. Beaudesert*

It was a nice country course, that wasn't long, but was very tight. Condition at the moment is pretty good due to the rain, and I'm told that they do have irrigation within 150m of the green to keep things green at other times. I felt that the greens were pretty tricky too. A few of the holes are packed in too tight; I took particular exception to the 11th which had me hitting on a line way too close to the 12th tee.

I was looking at the Grade champions honour boards across the years with my playing partners, but if your name was there, I didn't spot it.

I'm in golf course collection mode at the moment, with either new courses, or courses I have not played for a fair while. Four added for this year in the last week.

    1. Beaudesert*
    2. Victoria Park
    3. Gailes (1-9)
    4. Hills
    5. St Lucia

It was probably my goodbye to Victoria Park, before they turn it into parkland. It's a silly course, and super short, with great conditions in some spots, and poor in others. At $17 on a Tuesday, it's hard to complain too loudly.

I played Hills for the first time in over 10 years ago. I had some memories of some stupid holes, but even with that knowledge I still stuffed them up. Both fairways and greens are in relatively ordinary condition. It was interesting to return to, but it isn't high on the list to revisit (although I have to collect a pro pin prize).

St Lucia this morning was probably the first time I've been there in 20 years. It was longer than Vic Park, but still had plenty of short holes, but the condition was very good, if you can discount unrepaired pitch marks, and the tee markers not being rotated, it seems.

    Yep, pretty much Lefty.

The course is in great nick (pun intended ). It's not my favourite, but it's very nice.

Golf is, in part, a game; but only in part. It is also in part a religion, a fever, a vice, a mirage, a frenzy, a fear, an abscess, a joy, a thrill, a pest, a disease, an uplift, a brooding, a melancholy, a dream of yesterday and a hope for tomorrow. - New York Tribune, 1916.

Yarra Yarra was the first "top tier" course I played as a youngster (unless you count Woodlands) so it'll always have a special place in my heart / loins.

Have the works improved it anywhere near back to that top tier standing it had many moons ago? Or will it never get back there?

    We do not count it.
