I think par is better for lower handicaps because they get fewer 4 pointers than high handicaps. Although they should also get fewer wipes...
We play quite a few pars where I am, I have nothing against them. I don't think they speed up play compared to stableford though.

I find that B graders tend to score best at par events, where they can get on/close in regulation (providing they focus on getting in for 2 for a +).
A graders will get more birdies, but it is no advantage on holes where they get a shot.
C graders who can think like a B-grader will also do well. (But if they could do that consistently, they most likely wouldn't be in C grade.)
Par also tends to work well for players playing off a handful of shots higher than their anchor (i.e. a turnaround in form), but not for those that have come down in handicap recently.
You don't get me. I'm part of the Union.

Stableford was invented because Par was relatively harder for higher handicap golfers in tough conditions.
So its a bit of a joke when lower handicap golfers whine about Par(Bogey) format

I only dislike the format.I have played it several times and never had worse than square.I find it hard to get in balance with me vs the course.I find it a battle and not always enjoyable.I will still play it from time to time, but I much prefer stroke play.

I think people playing par feel cheated that they don't get to hole out as much.
Par plus or bonus par is a high markers game. The ability to have a plus 2 on a hole but not a minus 2.
I understand people avoiding stroke events. Having to play out every hole is embarrassing and a long day for some. I understand par being a less favourite format. But I don't understand why you would stay at home because it's par.

I have options being a member of 2 clubs at 1 course,so I sometimes exercise my option to not play par when I feel I don't want to.Sometimes their is more excitement to scramble for a bogey and 1 point than a - for the same hole.

Par plus is a joke.......it's completely biased towards high markers.

Real golfers lag a birdie putt when have two putts to win the hole.
