Always love watching new players emerge - hope that Pucovski and Saini do well.

Still don’t think that Will is a genuine opener, and would far prefer to see him at no. 5 to begin with, but we’ll see. Potentially good signs for Australia, with Pucovski and Green both a good chance of being long-termers to make a solid batting core with Marnus and Smith.

Doesn't look like warner was ready to come back. After about 10 mins you could see him struggling.

Yeah - quite concerning actually. Still, I guess the upside of him getting out early is that it gives him more time to recover ...

To be fair Pearce is in Newcastle.
Cinderella story, out of nowhere, former greenskeeper, now about to become a Masters champion..... It looks like a mirac.. It's in the hole! It's in the hole!

Agreed, if he is not a genuine opener, should be debut at no 6, just like every other great bats did.

Having watched a bit more of him, there are a few areas of concern in terms of technique, but nothing substantial. His ‘back and across’ move is fine, but his weight goes too far, and it results in his head being outside the line. He then slices across the ball and tries to hit it too square at times (see dismissal). I can also see why he has been hit the head so much - the previous issue re his weight transfer means that he can’t get inside the short ball. He should be ducking under the bouncer rather than trying to play it (and particularly with his weight too much on the front foot).

Still, this is me being fairly picky, and the issues are fixable. Unlike Burns.

Disappointing back half to the innings no matter what transpires from here. With Smith finding his footing we needed to support him a bit more. Wade was positive but it quickly backfired and he'll take some blame for exposing others to the new ball. Hindsights 100% but one of those dour 30's would have been invaluable. After Bus got out Wade, Green, Paine, Cummins and Lyon out on 14 between them.

See a couple of balls kept low late today. We'd kill to break this partnership before they get set tomorrow.

Win or lose, it will be interesting to see just what the selectors do with Wade versus Head up in Brisbane. I agreed with picking Wade here, but he didn’t have a lot of credit in the bank, and he has now used most of it up.

Stuart, never been a big fan of Wade but think he has gone ok and has probably copped the tip on aggressive vs positive. Unless we have some obvious solution and "given" we are likely 2-1 up against a weakened India, I wouldn't change.

Can't see Wade and Head being flipped for the last Test so quickly. His future might be on the line in the last Test, hard to say. We've got 3 Tests in S.A. coming up then The Poms here late this year (After a one off against Afghanistan) if all goes according to plan.

The Ashes are huge so they will surely be looking to have a strong well balanced mob by then as the goal. The bowlers and their back ups virtually pick themselves and we are super strong there tho we also need to bring thru some youngsters. Jhye Richardson will be in that mix. I wouldn't be surprised if Riley Merideth comes on strong.

#5 is pretty open. It's not impossible Will could be moved down but given the intangibles when they picked him to open in this match they are likely looking at him as a long term opener. Guys like Ben McDermott and Kurtis Patterson among others could well be knocking down the door by the time the Poms come out. McDermott is really coming on.

If Alex Carey gets among the runs in 1st class they might come out of left field and pop him in the team preparing for Paine's departure. If he did get in early he might even be a shock chance of El Capitano later on. I'm not sure they want Smith and Cummins wasn't overly keen a while back tho he's now said he'd do it if requested and rely a lot on Smith, Warner and co. The way his cricket is going i think i'd leave him well alone.

Ive had enough of Tim Paine, his mouth and his captaincy.

Time for him to give it up and concentrate on wicketkeeping/batting, let someone with a more level head captain

A ton of grit shown by a battered and bruised India to play this one out for a draw.
Had the shoe been on the other other foot I'm sure the Aussies would have been all out with 2 sessions to to spare.
This one was ripe for the taking and a big fail to not get it done.

Great effort by India. The big factor was the pitch not deteriorating anything like predicted and if anything it was quite friendly. That and a few catches. Can't take anything away from India tho, they are the real deal. Safe to say we didn't win any fans on the sportsmanship front.

Australia got a lesson in test cricket today, I think a lot have forgotten the difference between test and the shorter versions of the game, well played

No doubt India were impressive and the effort from Australia was good. But to discuss the next test and react like a year 9 school boy (to a realistic comeback claim from Ashwin) shows a severe lack of concentration and leadership.

Also having a deep point on the boundary was almost as stupid as using up your last review on a lbw that clearly pitched outside leg stump

Time to give it up, give Cummins the chance he deserves and bring the young aspergers kid in as vice captain (don’t ask me to spell his last name).

Paine will be around until the end of the Ashes i'd say unless he drops a heap against S.A. He's allowed a bad game. Sunil will just have to wait as Tim helped usher us out of a disgraceful place and i'm sure he will be quite different moving forward after yesterday. To be brutal i don't think Smith, Wade and Warner coming into the team have helped him in some ways tho the team is so much better off performance wise. At best Smith rubbing out Pant's guard was bizarre and i'm not sure i buy Paine's defense. I think he is far better off without the captaincy. He can give his two bobs worth from slip.

Hopefully the fortress holds next Test.

What was everyone's thoughts regarding the issue with Pant? Not able to keep but able to bat for a quick fire 97. I think that rule needs to be looked at again. Especially when the replacement keeper is a better keeper. Not sure how much difference it would have made but they definitely exploited the rule.

It wasn’t a concussion substitute so it looks dodgy to me.

Reminds me of some NRL clubs misusing the HIA substitution when a players head never had any contact.
