The Indian bowlers are bowling like ours did in the 2nd innings of the last Test.

Just like the 1st innings of the last Test it all hinges on Paine getting a decent score.

It is certainly worth acknowledging good bowling - I’ll give Head credit today as he stuck it out and fell to a good ball. Burns still looks totally shot, and it was really lucky for him that both Warner and Will were missing. Hope that doesn’t continue for the Third Test.

Still haven’t forgiven Wade’s total brain snap either. Our batting lineup is so shaky, we really can’t afford mental errors by any of the more established guys.

The only positive I can see is that the ball is swinging for the quicks and turning for the spinners.

Can the bowlers dig us out of a hole again or will they wait until the second dig. Warners class and authority missed and we went from heavily reliant on threeto heavily reliant on two. Most of the others have been around a while tho. We need some runs out of the other top order when Smith and Lubs don't score big at opportune times. Having said that we could have had them 2 for and how many times did they play and miss. Unlike last Test the edges weren't routinely found. Gill looked semi set y the end. Lets see what they come up with.

Besides bowling superbly yesterday India actually took their catches and some quite good ones at that. It was miles different to the 1st Test and potentially made a huge difference. I was surprised Jadeja held that catch with the impending collision and all.

One of Burns better innings this summer. Almost hit one off the middle.

This is also a reason why the coach should never be a selector. Langer talks a lot about loyalty, which is great in a coach but a big fail for selectors who need to be objective.

I hope that's the last time we have to watch Burn's attempt to bat this series.

They are in an interesting position now. Warner apparently is not looking like being fit and if not what a dilemma. Will has been out for a bit now and thrusting him into the opening spot is a sizable risk due to multiple reasons. Harris might be the default but he's another who doesn't seem to improve. He has got heaps of Shield runs behind him this season at least. One can almost understand how spuds like Marsh re-emerge time and time again. At least no-one is talking Bancroft.

Good points. My take is that at least Harris is a chance of scoring runs - it has been blatantly obvious to everyone that Burns wasn’t going to.

Edit: Obvious to everyone except Langer that is.

It is an outlier, against a deflated opposition. Another 30 or so in this test, would have added some more weight to it, instead he has had two complete failures.

    True.

But in terms of the context of that game, it didn’t even remotely convince me - it wasn’t really what you would call a solid 50.

As I have said numerous times, Burns simply does not have a good enough technique to succeed long-term as an opener. He has a great eye, and that will help him to do well sometimes, but his long-term average is actually pretty representative of what we can continue to expect. A few hundreds interspersed with a lot of failures.

Edit: Remember that he debuted for Australia at no. 6 - a position that he is far better suited to.

Great comeback by the Indians particularly with Kohli gone. He's already under scrutiny from the pack back home with plenty wanting Rahane to stay on as El Capitano.

Realistically tho we barely won a session in the 1st Test and it was a freak occurrence got us home. We didn't win that many sessions in this one either. They've got some serious bowling drama's with injury but our batting woes might be even bigger. Apart from one short period India has mostly outplayed us.

Wade impressed with his doggedness despite the first innings dismissal and he'd be well ahead of Head for me if push came to shove anywhere. Head loves to feel the bat on the ball and goes looking for it too often and isn't overly patient. Green bedded in quite well and should be given plenty of time to find his way in Test cricket.

Can't see many changes as few are knocking on the door and it's now a critical stage. Will should be fit but opening would be a helluva risk at this stage. Perhaps he will pressure Head but we'd then have two inexperienced youngsters batting not far apart.

Our bats have just got to perform better. Hopefully Smith comes good to carry us and Lubs kicks on. Huge game coming up to state the obvious.

The old saying catches win matches rings true.
The Aussies dropped a few which is unusual for them.
Couple that with a poor batting performance and your in trouble.

Last i saw was 6 dropped catches for us. India dropped a few in the first game but came back good this time around.

One wonders if Henriques is completely out of the picture. They've got plenty of time to think anyway. They'd be working overtime on Warner LOL

I think that Moises' time in the sun has passed - while he would bring good experience, I don't believe he would offer more runs that his competitors, and Smith/Wade etc can provide the leadership support for Paine.

Assuming all are fit and ready to go, I'd bring Harris in for Burns, Warner back to open, and drop Wade back down to number 5. I think young Will needs some time back in the middle before he gets his chance, and would prefer to see him coming in at no. 5 rather than against the new ball anyway. Green has shown more than enough to justify keeping him in the team to continue his learning journey - he is not the finished article yet, but technically he looks as good as anyone at that age.

I think i agree with you Stuart. I don't want to drop Head, but he needs to learn he can't slash outside off like he does in test cricket. Doing what he did just after Wade was dismissed was criminal.

I might go Puc vs Harris if he's truly fit & mentally prepared. It's risky though.

Good points. They did however pop him into the First Test squad and he played some of the recent white ball for us. With Will extremely unlikely it would give us one more right hander against Ashwin who is murder on left handers.
