    Default 2021 S.A. Champs discussions

With the dust barely settled on the cancellation of the 2020 Champs I think it’s time to open up discussions on when to hold the 2021 Champs.
There’s already been mention of maybe changing from our usual end of November date to around March April.

I’ll start this off by listing a few things that I know worth considering.
Looking at previous years the Public Pennant League plays from January to the start of March. I know this affects a few of our S.A members.
April is a terrible month to schedule anything with Easter and ANZAC Day in that month not leaving many available weekends.
October many Clubs are holding their Club Championships and at the end of the month and into early November many courses are coring and sanding Greens.
November it can start to get warm to hot.
May June July August are months more likely to encounter rain.
December is too close to Christmas and we have another important annual game “The Xmas Mug”

If we do decide to go with an earlier month the ball will need to start rolling soon into the new year as you want to leave no less than 2 months for to visitors organise flights and accommodation.

Having said all the above means nothing if Covid is not under control and States keep having break out clusters.

I got some dates from Marcel that Royal Adelaide was available in March.
Sun 7th March and Sun 14th March were the only ones available.
The 14th is only 5 Weekends away from now so that does not leave much time if we were hell bent on holding it in march this year.
There is also the added issue that COVID-19 outbreaks are still happening at random around the country making it extremely difficult for any Visitors to attend with any certainty. We are only 1 outbreak of going into another lockdown or heavy restrictions in S.A. as well.

My own thoughts are that we should hold it later in the year and hope to hell this COVID-19 Lock Down/Board Restrictions nonsense is coming to an end now vaccinations are starting to happen around the world and in Australia in the coming months.

Need some quick responses from the S.A. guys as to what you think is the best course of action?

14th works for me, 7th doesn't. Also happy to wait until later in the year. I'd like to do it in March, but the problem with it being so close is availability - people might have plans already.

It's hard to know what later in the year will look like. We might find ourselves in the same position where travel between states can still change at a days notice. I'm also happy to play in March or wait until later in the year.

@Jimandr; what does your credit vouchers allow for in terms of validity?

I'm not sure exactly what my accommodation provider would accept, but at this stage, I told him I wanted to visit in March, so I still want to visit in March. I am flexible in terms of dates, but I'll avoid Easter and any school holidays.

I'm not worried about whether there is an SA Champs happening or not. If things stay the same, and borders remain open, I'll visit anyway. There will be a golf course open somewhere.

Having said that, I'm not going to make any plans yet. I'll give it another two weeks before making any decision.

7th March falls on a long weekend, a few wives will not be pleased with that outcome (well, mainly mine)

I reckon 14/3 is the go, play Compass or Lady Boy 13/3

I reckon we bite the bullet and stick with March 13-14, keep it a two day event.

Im sure one of use could assist Jim if he needs it organising a game somewhere Friday and/or Monday.

Looks like March 13 and 14 is a clear favorite. I'll check with Compass on availability.

Is everyone ok with an afternoon round at Compass so we can have Dinner at the Club after?

I'll start the official thread in the next few days when I know if its Compass or Lady Bay if Compass is not available.

Yeah no problem here with an afternoon round, I'll only be a pencil for dinner, but will try.

    Default 2021 S.A. Champs discussions

Might I propose a Mildura trip for November early Dec, either that or our revised pinball trip to the border....

Early days yes but just planting the seed

Will see where I stand re this champs.
Just won a few large tenders and while no site work is allowed on weekends due to proximity of residential, I may need to spend weekends getting things ready.

Might sound a bit selfish but as long as there are no clusters, lockdowns, restrictions in S.A itself this Champs is going ahead now I've booked things. The more visitors the better but if it's only us locals so be it.

For sure, just hoping this won’t be an omen to a third wave

+1. It'd be great if others could come, but at some point we need to bite the bullet and just do it. SA-only champs is better than no champs.

Enjoy it SAnkers. I try to make the next one after we all have the vaccine and can have some confidence there’ll be no last minute border closures.
Cinderella story, out of nowhere, former greenskeeper, now about to become a Masters champion..... It looks like a mirac.. It's in the hole! It's in the hole!
