    Default Garmin Approach Z82

Just wondering if anyone has purchased one of these as yet?
I like the idea of a rangefinder and gps in one.
Just don’t want to spend 1k and find out they are terrible.

Would love to know if anyone has one, if so what they think.

So from everything I've read the Z82 has better optics and is quicker than the 80.

The 80 for me is really good. It's a touch slow to start up each time you want a distance but it's about a 2 second delay for the screen to activate. I get around it but pushing the button as I'm getting it out and it's good by the time I get it to my eyes.

The overlay is perfect. You set your driver distance so you can see what trouble you might get into off the tee. I haven't dug into it if you can add points to the map, but if you can / could, then it's even better. It does show some bunkers to clear and some to front. I mostly want both but haven't dug enough to add points (if you can??)

Otherwise on courses I don't play often it was really good.

At the usual course I play it's been great as there are a few lay ups.

I was lucky and got mine for about $400 2nd hand.

They come up every now and then. If you play a lot then well worth it. I wouldn't go back to a simple laser again. The GPS is too good at giving info. Especially middle of green and front / back. Made my club choices a lot better

IE pin front, but club will get me to the middle, go for more, rather than X distance and it spinning off the front or the like. I've never known how much room there is long on a lot of pins at our course and with the laser amount I'm never confident adding distance.

    My 2 cents anyway

I can backup Matt's review of the 80. I really only use it on courses I'm not familiar with, but it's awesome.

Looks like you can't add points onto the GPS but they are definitely enough to see the course and where to lay up. Especially helpful on par 5's and how much bunkers run beside greens. Been great to see that X club will cover a Greenside bunker etc
