    Default Comp fees?

Interested to gauge comp fees at various courses.

Bonnie Doons just increased to 15 which seems rather steep.

    What’s yours at your local?

Ours are $15 also. Has been for a while. What is the prize allocation %? Ours is 25%.

$15 weekends and $12 weekdays at Lynwood.

Looks to be around 35% prize pool.

$15 seems overs for Bonnie Doon, are you being compensated with a lower annual subscription. If you play 2 or 3 times a week, your annual outlay makes for expensive golf.

We pay $10. Are you guys sure on the payout numbers, we are above 80% albeit you have to spend any winnings in the pro shop where the mark up is 50%

$6 for Thaxted Park for normal comp. Not sure on the split but Saturday comp pays $60, $40, $30 for A, B and C grade. Less for other days.

$15 comp fee plus $2 for propin

    194 in the field yesterday X $15 = $2910
    $425 paid out in prizes
$60/$40 in each grade plus 25 in the ball rundown

    Roughly 15%

$18 at Dunheved, from memory $17 at Windsor.

Some committees assume fleecing the membership is the easiest way to raise revenue.

Are people willing to pay comp fees of $15 or more? I know I wouldn't.

Depends on the model, I only played 20 times at my course last year, one guy played over 200 times.

To generate the same revenue base, I would certainly favour a user pays model with reduced annual subs. Golf clubs survive on members who don't play, most models are heavily in favour of people with unlimited time.

Yeah it’s a new rule going in November. We think it’s steep, and no the subs aren’t decreasing

Comp fees seem lower in SA. $5 at North Adelaide (was $6, but apparently coins are dangerous covid carriers). Comp fees at a course I play in Qld (that is not as good as North Adelaide) are in the teens.

Gailes is at $18. I'll just use it as a practice course now, as it is stupid for me to pay that just so I can get my handicap updated.

It's definitely an eye opener being from SA. I had no idea clubs charged that sort of price for comps.

$11 if you want to go in the dollar club which pays the top 3 best 9 hole scores of the day.

For a normal comp it's $6. All of the money is paid out in prizes.

    $16 at Half Moon Bay.

Golf is, in part, a game; but only in part. It is also in part a religion, a fever, a vice, a mirage, a frenzy, a fear, an abscess, a joy, a thrill, a pest, a disease, an uplift, a brooding, a melancholy, a dream of yesterday and a hope for tomorrow. - New York Tribune, 1916.
