Both can be appropriate. There are multiple pennants within the main pennant competition in Brisbane. It's Alexandra Headland, and so the course is Headland GC.

I played both in midweek comps last year while on Holiday so a very small sample. Both courses are good. The front 9 at Headland offers the best golf of the two courses. Some pretty good golf that won't let you just bomb away. The 4th was my favourite hole. I enjoyed the company of all the playing partners and pro shop staff were great at both. Headland was more polite with shirts tucked in. Asked to take a swig of the birdie flask at Caloundra after each birdie. The biggest knock would be the hills at Headland. As someone who likes to ruin a good walk I wouldn't enjoy Headland on a regular basis. I couldn't work out if 17 was good or bad for my heart! The other knock on both is the lack of practice facilities if you're a range rat.
Even though I think Headland is a slightly better course I would probably choose Caloundra of the two.

Depends on the driving time you want, as there are no really close courses to Warana. Caloundra and Pelican Waters one way, Headland and Maroochy River the other. Pelican was ranked 78, and Maroochy 100 in the golf digest top 100. Palmer Coolum (97) and Noosa Springs (95) are also on the list, but probably too far to drive.

Personally, I would lean towards Maroochy River., although I've only played it once, as it is a relatively new course. It's flat, but very open to the wind, so it wouldn't play the same all of the time.

It is a great course, but I would have a close look at membership numbers - had a couple of mates leave due to the difficulties in getting games on the main days.

Twin Waters is about 3k a year for membership but there is a joining fee. It's one of the top 4 on the coast.

Pelican Waters hosted the Qld Open not too long ago, and apparently they have done some work to it, but I don't know what the changes were.

Played Palmer Coolum last week. Course is looking great, and they are putting on comps now. Worth a shot.

Also played Mt Coolum. Bit of a shit layout, but it's current condition is top shelf.

Pelican is 9 holes at best, probably avoid for a year or so.

Go try them all. Most will give you a free game or a guest rate if you are lookin for a new club.

Maroochy River is not great, if I were you and living in Warana I'd definitely be going to Headland. It's a nice course and is generally in really good shape. Lots of interesting holes, whereas MR is basically the same hole played 5 times throughout the round, very forgettable stuff. It'd be about a 15 minute drive for you to get there. Twin Waters is obviously good, Pelican is the Norman design with lots of bunkers, Caloundra is not too bad but Headland would be better. The old Horton Park really blew it when they had the chance to buy Twin Waters but instead opted to build a new course.

Thats a good point but Twin Waters put their asking price up to a ridiculous amount something like 25M once council formerly began forced acquisition, just on the assumption that council would pay "whatever" it took to relocate and there was no other option.

At some point prior, Pelican and Twin waters were both for sale at asking prices <10M each, with HP already with enough cash in the bank to buy both and have change leftover. That would have been ideal if it played out that way but i guess the club was heading toward getting another deal done with a developer perhaps to continue with the Kunda park site.

    A lot of If/thens though

Yeah my mum was a member at HP before the sale, and at the time I do believe buying Twin Waters would have been cheaper than building the new course, like you said with change leftover.

As it stands, a lot of the people that voted for the new course (mum wanted the purchase of TW) are now gone from Maroochy River.

Looks as though Maroochy River is out then - not interested in going into a ballot to get a tee time on a Sat..

Both Headland & Caloundra have wait lists and Pelican is under significant works... hmmm

Perhaps I play all 3 and see where we land!

Have you ruled out Twin Waters?

I would join Nambour and then waitlist the one you really want. Easy drive, And at least you will be able to play Pennant.

If you old fat and slow, beerwah is also equidistant and a easy drive.

While initial booking can be hectic, wait list clears 99% of time. Course is always well presented. But as membership closed, a mute point I guess. This article good read about this successful Club https://www.sunshinecoastnews.com.au...ver-golf-club/

I am keen to play some competitive golf so a club with pennant options would be great. If I’m fortunate enough to be selected of course.

They are building a retirement village and rerouting couple of holes. The current driving range and hole 9 are being lost to the development.

And also buying a new house there will give you a brand new golf cart for free!

That's what I read yesterday when driving pass. Me and my missus had a good 5 minutes chuckle
