Steel Shaft in a hybrid?
Hi all,
Has anyone done the experiment of putting a steel shaft in a hybrid?
I currently play a C-Taper Lite 110 in my utility/driving iron and it matches well to the C-Taper 120 shafts in my irons.
I haven't tried using a hybrid for a while, I have previously struggled with them hooking. I'm thinking that if I set it up like my utility iron it will flatten the lie angle and add some overall weight. I'm expecting to need to add some head weight to keep the swing weight reasonable.

I have a normal iron shaft in my hybrid, an
FST pro 115. Many hybrids are set up hooky, so maybe thats half the issue

Criticism doesn't bother me, as it means I am doing something and people are watching.

Yep, can certainly help with consistency of feel through the clubs. Getting the right head will be a big part of the set up.

Let me take a rough guess that your a strong long iron striker?
Most who have no problems hitting long irons find Hybrids are hook machines. Going 2x stiffer in the Hybrid shaft over what you normally use tends to help sort that out.

I wouldn't normally describe myself as a strong striker of anything I haven't tried any hybrid for a few years so I figure it's time to revisit. I previously didn't know if I was supposed to hit it like an iron or a wood.

The KBS steel hybrid has worked a treat for me in a number of heads, the taper lite would be fine. I found the steel so much more accurate.

2x stiffer? So you're putting someone with a reg flex into an X?
Holy low launch, batman.

I have a Callaway Heavenwood 20 degree hybrid that I purchased off 3balls in 2010 for around $150. It came with a cally uniflex steel shaft (never realised it was going to be steel until it arrived). Was quite heavy but so solid through the ball. This club has made a return to my bag on occasion.
Arrow straight trajectory but very little stopping power, also sounds very old school tinny off the face.
Had a ball with this club around RM one year, made birdie on #17 west playing a runner out of the RHS 1st cut. Also got greenside on #6 for two.

If they are finding the Hybrid constant hook machines, yes.
The big if on the whole thing is if they are usually a much better than average striker with long irons.

The number of players playing reg flex shafts that would be strong in long irons would be rather miniscule.

CTaper 130g X into an 19* Adams then a 712U 2i.
Wasn’t as successful as I wanted, the RIP Alpha 115g X I got from here (Johnny Canuck I think) was probably the best I think.

oh yes..
18* saqra with an NS 125 modus3 stiff.
its heavy but stable.
definitely takes some distance away, no doubt about it BUT it is so rediculously reliable now. it doesnt move laterally what so ever.
its IMPOSSIBLE to draw it. michealanglelo cudnt draw with it..
i used it at long reef as my first club chosen in any weather and its surplanted the fariway woods. i dont need em any more. wont get me on the pars 5 but im inside 100 on them all for shot 3 , ill take that all day .
erm not great when u play on richer grass as u dont get a whole lot of carry, its so good for links or anywhere u can steal some run. i wont go back to carbon for that club thats better served in a higher lofted higher carry club like a 22*
the NS is a good choice. if u want higher l loft and a bit more theatrics and then NS 950x is another super idea
