    Default Computer geek help!

Hey ya's. Having trouble with the Mrs pc. Every time I try to turn it on, we basically get a quite pop from the speakers and nothing happens. Been having trouble getting it going since power went off yesterday. I've unplugged everything not necessary (hdd's cept boot, all peripherals etc). When plugged in the power supply light stays on, but when i press the power button the power supply light flickers for a sec. It's a first generation i7 Dell XPS tower (I think first anyway) she's had for at least 10 years now and is used for photoshop etc. So maybe it's up for an upgrade (not gonna be happy with that cost). It has been sluggish for a while. It's left on 24/7 too. What I don't know is if it's a power supply issue, or motherboard etc? I was sure I had a spare power supply around the place but I can't for the life of me find it. It's not something I'd typically throw out. Any thoughts or wisdom?

Oh, and something I forgot. I'm wondering if you can extension power cables for the dc section of a power adapter into a laptop? I know we can just use an extension cord on the ac side, but in the way Rob want's to use her laptop, an extension on the dc side would be best. But I can't seem to find anything?

Hard to really troubleshoot over the internet but sounds like the a power surge may have fried one of the components, likely to be power suply or motherboard given that it doesn't seem like you can even get to the bios menu?

10 years for a pc is good innings, if you have the option of getting a new one i don't think you'll regret it.

I'll regret it, because it's not mine! Though, less complaining about how slow it is could be worth it........ hmmmmmm

OK, I've borrowed a spare power supply from a mate and hooked that up, and it looks like it's powering up, all the fans are spinning etc and the power light stays on6+. Cept I can't really tell because the monitor is getting no signal, and even the keyboard light doesn't come on when I plug it into any usb port. But, when I plugged my tablet into a usb port it starts charging it! What the frig.
