Many of us do this to ourselves but what about your mates choices???

Some of the SA golfers might recall Mr White who absolutely chopped his way around at the SA Champs recently.
He has been stuck for a year on 13-14 hcap even with a 1000 hours of practice and a minimum of two lessons a week.
Frustration has lent to a shake up of the bag. Not a ho and this is his first iron change in 3 years. TM 790 Modus 120
Just dropped $1600 for a new set of Titleist 620 5-6cb 7-PW mb
Modus 105's
I had about 20 hits yesterday with them and holy smokes they are pretty but I could not hit these at all.
I remember this from a couple of years ago, mate walks in with a new wood from the pro shop.
Us: what you got?
Muppet: new 3 wood
Us: what's wrong with your old 3 wood (which he hits like a dart)
Muppet: wanted something with a lower loft
Us: what loft is it?
Muppet: I don't know.
Spare me.
That reminds me, when I once took a club into the office ...
Muppet - Oh, you play golf.
Dotty - Yes.
M - What do you play off?
D - 7
M (picking up the club) - Oh, that's a reg. shaft.
D - It works for me.
M - You should use a stiff shaft off a low handicap. I play off 26 and use a stiff shaft.
You don't get me. I'm part of the Union.
It wasn't a mate, but I remember a few years ago at a range there was a couple of guys talking about one of the guys new clubs and how he got a bargain on a new set of Callaways.
He pulled out the driver and proceeded to have the head fly off fruther than the ball.
When I walked past you could tell they were fake from a quick glance.
A guy that used to occasionally play with us rocked up with a new Adams driver that he had been 'fitted' for at one of the local golf outlets. Now this guy is 5' tall at most, I'm 6'1" and my driver at the time, fitted, measured 46" - this Adams was 2"+ longer than what mine was! Needless to say he never could hit that thing, and neither could the rest of us, it was all over the place. Kudos to him tho, he played it every week because, as it had been 'fitted', it was obviously him not the driver ........... (sure he gave the game away eventually)
A mate of mine (who never played golf before) asked me to start playing golf with him and his mates; so I started to look on Gumtree for clubs and gears. Plenty of them around then.... told him not to go get a set without checking with me...
nope... didnt listen... went and spend too much $$$ on a set of Wilson Deep Red set, brought it to the range, smash 120balls in 20mins, had 1 round of golf, and gave up. His wife complains that the set is under the stairs collecting dusts.
Once we had dinner with his parents, and his mom was complaining about the father also have a set of clubs collecting dusts. The dad's friends are all golfers, so he also went and impulsively bought a full set of XXIO clubs and matching bag, and only used it a few times. Brought his to the driving range, and he still had the plastic wrapping on his 6-8 irons....

Not me, but my filty rich asian mate tells me about his filthier rich asian mate who decides to take up golf and blows about 10k on the bling. On his way to his first game after lessons, mate suggests he buys some used balls from the street vendors outside the club as he will likely lose a few. Nope because he already has 2 dozen new prov1. He issists he wants to use what the good players use, and gives the balls to the caddie to hand out as he needs them.
After 2 holes his caddy says " its not enough"
lol.... yeah... its pretty crazy some rich asian golfers I have met before...
seeing $1000 per club was pretty common among them... oh and the gold colour bling on the clubs....
Corporate golf day at Hamilton Island. Organizer rocks up with three cartons of Volvik Vista VI golf balls. At the time retail was $80 a doz
Said to me 'someone told me these are better than Pro V's that we used last year'. As backup one of the staff brings in the Srixon Distance balls.
90% of the players were not golfers. 'Hamo' was at its 'Thommo best' that day, all the rough was dense and easily covering ankles.
I embezzled about 3 boxes and then grabbed the Srixon balls that nobody wanted to use. I announced to my group 'these are the ones we are using'
Our group lost about 40 balls that day, I think I lost about 5 but I was not playing much and well around that time.
I've got a mate who keeps buying Callaway and Cobra drivers.
But when I talk to him next, he says that he is putting the Jetspeed back in the bag.

Golf is, in part, a game; but only in part. It is also in part a religion, a fever, a vice, a mirage, a frenzy, a fear, an abscess, a joy, a thrill, a pest, a disease, an uplift, a brooding, a melancholy, a dream of yesterday and a hope for tomorrow. - New York Tribune, 1916.
A Hacker mate of mine just picked up a set of Callaways "Ultra Premium" Epic Forged Irons , What a Toss !
Proud to use Circle"B" Sun Protection!
There is an idiot in my mirror who is going to buy a TPT shaft for his Jetspeed.
