Golf is, in part, a game; but only in part. It is also in part a religion, a fever, a vice, a mirage, a frenzy, a fear, an abscess, a joy, a thrill, a pest, a disease, an uplift, a brooding, a melancholy, a dream of yesterday and a hope for tomorrow. - New York Tribune, 1916.
Absolute rubbish round at Ashgrove yesterday, 108 off the stick says it all really. One positive though was I was hitting the driver pretty well, didn't hit a lot of fairways but the majority of misses were only just off the edge. Quite narrow fairways compared to most of the courses the club plays at, on a different course a few of those misses probably wouldn't have been. Too many miscues with irons ruined it for me.
32 points for me yesterday. 12 and 20.
6 / 14 fairways (this explains the score)
5 / 18 GIR (Jesus Christ, how did I get to 32!?)
5 / 16 up n downs (lucky to get to 22!)
29 putts
3 birdies
6 pars
8 bogeys
1 double
1 par and 1 birdie on the back (first 9), couldn't do a god damn thing right.
2 birds and 2 bogeys around the front was a strong result coming home.
Teeing off 9 we were 4 down in the units to Bushy and Courty, needed something special to tie. Stiffed a wedge to 2 inches for 3 units, not quite enough.
36pts for me yesterday.
Chopped it around the first nine... 15pts with 2 wipes and 2 1s. Helped out with a 4pt birdie.
Nine straight pars on the second nine for 21pts.
But most importantly, held on for the win over Hoges & Frodo.
No I actually flew the drain but was in amongst the tree roots on the first. Punched out to the 1st fairway, hit the best iron all day - blind over the creek - to 12ish feet and missed the par putt.
Hard to be pleased with myself when I emerged from the jungle to see a ball sitting on the lip with three sh!t-eating grins looking at me.
