Nice one. Remind me of the details of that hole again. I've only played it once in its current format, but I remember that it finished with a few par 3s.

    11/05/2020, Gailes GC, Stableford.

Back to back comp rounds at Gailes and I started this one as I finished the last, that is, having no idea how to hit a golf ball. The drives kept going left into the trees, including the first OOB, and I couldn't hit a green. I eventually got the driver going nicely, including seven fairways in a row, which is the first time I have showed any consistency with it, although I did pop another one OOB on the 17th.

However, I can't hit an approach shot with an iron at the moment, and there isn't even a consistent miss to allow for. If you miss greens at Gailes, you're likely to go into a bunker, so at least I got some sand practice. Speaking of sand, the greens had been covered with sand yet again, so that took away a chance of making some saves with the putter. By the end of the round, I had zero confidence standing over the ball with an iron, and just didn't know what to do. It didn't matter what the distance was, as I was missing from anywhere, even when in the centre of the fairway. It was very deflating to be in prime position, then completely destroy it.

For the second time in a row, I double bogeyed or worse each of holes 15, 16 and 17 to make this the worst round I have played on my golflink record, and as bad as I can remember for a long time. I hit a couple of nice hybrid shots though, after it has been in and out of the bag recently, so that's a bonus.

    Stats: 8/15 fairways, 1/18 greens, 34 putts.
    Score: XBBBXBXPB BBBPPXXXB; 48-47-95 (+22); Stab 10-12-22pts.

I hope you realise, Damo, that every time the 'have you ever had an ace?' conversation comes up, you'll have to drag out that quote. It'll get a laugh the first ten times, but after that...

A few posts ago in this thread, I claimed it was only my putting that was holding me back from a good round. I was despairing after a few more failures, but today it happened. 40 points. Best round for 12 months.

It was lucky in spots but I'm taking the three times in four holes that I hit a slightly thinned approach that pitched 20m short and ran up onto the green. One of those turned into a 4 pointer birdie. Hooray for me, after a long drought.

A summary of my past 3 rounds:

    Sat 9/5: 27 (15/12)
    Sun 10/5: 29 (16/13)
    Today: 31 (12/19)

All 3 rounds consisted of 4-5 bad holes where I wiped or just managed to come away with a point...mix of poor approaches, bad reads on putts and the occasional attempted hero shot that found water.

Upside was that I holed a 30ish footer for a bird on our 15th...so 5/18 holes ticked off in my Richmond birdie challenge.

Dang, I'm playing at Gailes on Sunday. Doesn't sound like putting will be much fun, but as long as I can shoot under 100 I won't be too bothered. It's all practice and consistency is slowly improving.

I think I need to play somewhere else while my game is a mess. Too many trees, and too many bunkers.

Fair enough. My game isn't great but I don't expect it to be this early after starting again. I'm usually better on the second 9, takes a few holes to get the coordination going with irons at the moment so those first few tend to blow out a bit. Last time at Oxley was +16 on the front 9 and +8 on the back.

Had my first 9 holes in about a hundred years. Really enjoyed it.
Parred the first hole and nearly went home there and then.

    Welcome back, Mike.

Golf is, in part, a game; but only in part. It is also in part a religion, a fever, a vice, a mirage, a frenzy, a fear, an abscess, a joy, a thrill, a pest, a disease, an uplift, a brooding, a melancholy, a dream of yesterday and a hope for tomorrow. - New York Tribune, 1916.

A couple of wayward shots on the first few holes pretty much set my day up. 5 points after 5 holes. Got my tempo back to finish the first 9 at 15 points.

Next 9 was pretty much down to me not chipping right. Bogey most of the way to finish off with 16 points

    44/43 for 87/77 finish

I'll take it considering I haven't swung a club in over a month. Too many 3 putts.
    Did someone say new putter?

What a perfect start to Victorian golf. The sun was shining, the birds chirping, and the golfers made the pilgrimage back to the course.I however may as well have stayed in bed.A miserly 19 points for me today, but in truth really had nothing to aim for.I haven't got a flag for another 2 rounds, and hadn't swung a club in 7 week's.Started off well with my first drive going OB,and hit 1 green all day.Could have been worse though,I did here of an 16 point round

Nice score, Lefty. Since when do you do standard round reports like that?
