banning removing the flagstick has one benefit - by the afternoon the flagsticks are still sitting straight in the cups!
I dunno if its becuase our cups or pins are old, greenkeeper technigue, or corellas eating the holes, but ours fill up with dust as the day goes on so the flag dont sit straight

Australian golf clubs advised to close
by Golf Australia
Golf Australia has advised all Australian golf clubs and facilities to close until further notice.
Golf Australia chairman Andrew Newbold said the recommendation was based on the Prime Minister’s announcement on Sunday evening (29 March) that limits outdoor gatherings to two persons or fewer.
The Prime Minister said all Australians should stay at home except for:
• Shopping for essentials
• Medical purposes
• Exercise
• Work and education, if you cannot work or learn remotely
Some Premiers and Chief Ministers have already supported this view and reinforced to their residents that this advice should be followed. It is expected that states/territories will all take this position in coming days.
Newbold said government messaging had been clear on what constituted exercise and while golf is used as exercise for many, it was clear golf did not fall within those parameters in the past 24 hours.
“Golf Australia acknowledges that some state and territory governments will provide additional information and we will keep you up to date as and when additional state and territory-based announcements are made so you are clear on the legalities of golf courses and their operations moving forward,” Newbold said.
“While this is a difficult time for the golf industry and wider society, Golf Australia is committed to working with clubs and facilities across the states and territories to ensure that we return a vibrant, strong industry.”
Golf Australia has also, in conjunction with the Australian Sports Turf Management Association, Golf NSW and Golf WA begun to lobby both Federal and state governments to ensure that – in the event of a further increase in restrictions to prevent the spread of COVID-19 – course staff will be able to continue to access clubs and facilities.
“We will keep you all up to date as to the status of these discussions, although it should be noted that as of now there are no further restrictions on current greenkeeping operations,” Newbold said.

Inside goss from a GA staffer is that they are lobbying the states hard. Whether that helps or not is another thing. Bottom line is that the decisions will be made by the states.
Same advice on Golf NSW website. Closed from midnight. Course staff can still attend and carry out maintenance. Apparently golf is not considered as exercise in the circumstances.
A stupid question: If the course is closed, but you are a member, can you be charged with trespass if you set foot on said course?
I suspect the answer is yes, but I don't know for sure.
I'm going to predict that comps will shut down, but golfers will be permitted to play solo, or maybe even in two's.
"There are 50 things to remember in the golf swing. Trouble is that I can only remember 49 of them" - Bob Hope.
They use the word golf club and facilities.
Does course count as facilities?
Better remember the Governments stance the next time G.A runs any campaign or puts out any literature and mentions Golf and exercise in the same spiel.
Gailes just sent out an email saying that they will still be open for play.
What a ****in joke! Golf is possibly one thing you can do quite safely. It's possible to play without touching anything anyone else has touched, you can keep your distance and depending on when you play, you might not even cross paths with a single person. I'm more likely to catch something going to Woolworths when I have to line up to get my ****in toilet paper!

Clubs NSW were lobbying for clubs to stay open for golf for social play. They are more than aware that course maintenance is expensive and no revenue over multiple months will kill more than a few clubs.
Golf Australia worried about how they would look being the last sport still playing. Don’t seem to care about the welfare of their member clubs.
And, they still intend to debit affiliation fees tonight - when every other supplier and provider has deferred everything until clubs reopen.

I hope all clubs stay open and gives GA the big middle finger.
Once you go yellow, you will never go back
I found out at 1750 yesterday evening, I was at my course by 1830, and enjoyed one glorious final hour at dusk on the golf course. It was quite emotional. I tried to soak it all in - take mental pictures so I would remember what the course looked like and what it feels like to play golf. I hit my drives on the last two holes and (couldn't see the ball in the dark) just slowly walked the last two holes. It was so peaceful; being on a golf course by yourself late in the evening is a very spiritual experience. Amongst many other virtues, golf is fantastic for practising mindfulness...will have to find some other way to keep myself from bouncing off the walls for the next few months.
Closing down golf really is a stupid decision.

Belarusian golf is pumping.
If it was a rule, golf courses would have been closed down by the government, along with many other things.
