Default COVID-19 effect to golf club local rules and facility usage.

    RQ
Effective immediately, golf carts will be restricted to one person. This measure is to apply to both private and Club buggies.
We are trialling inserts around the base of the flags, designed to allow the ball to be retrieved without contact with the pin or the grass.
All bunker rakes will be removed. Golfers are able to take preferred lie in bunkers, and asked to smooth the bunker after you have finished.
Golfers are asked to keep their own scorecard, and no Marker signature is required. Scores still need to be confirmed verbally with playing partners.
The Clubhouse furniture has been reconfigured to observe the Government's recommended four square metres per person for gatherings of fewer than 100 people.
Shared amenities, including deodorant, sunscreen and hairdryers, will be removed from the Locker Rooms.
All NTP and approach shot prizes will be suspended, excess competition money will be included in the rundown.
We have stopped visits to RQ by reciprocal club members.

GA have issued guidelines and most clubs seems to be following them.

Pennsylvania has closed courses. Other US states are following.

I reckon we have this weekend and maybe Wednesday until Australian courses close.

Probably a good thing as it is pretty sterile and a tad boring with no NTP's and all these new rules.
I'm going to grab 1000 of my mates and go to the beach iinstead.

About 1% of positives so far are under 19 and most of those had just returned from overseas. So it would seem to me that so far schools are not a significant source of infection.

I have played golf three times this week and been observant of others behaviours. Most are broadly complying, though mostly without much thought. But there are still too many stubborn naysayers or just can't be bothereds that just don't seem to get it. I played with a retire School Principal that still insisted on shaking hands, ignore all recommendations e.g. social distance, leave the flag in, handling flag etc etc. The irony of course is he is in the prime lethalicity age grouping. Then I had another tell me that he lived through Infantile Paralysis (Polio) so this didn't worry or concern him. Totally ignoring or playing down the Pandemic nature of this threat.

I have been wearing a glove on each hands and changing my habits accordingly. No food, no touching face etc. Sanitising hands etc when finished, and sterlising the gloves later. Even then you really have to think through all your actions and movements to maintain the system.

Unless you have very nimble fingers, nearly everyone is touching near the base of the flag when getting their ball out of the hole.

Our club has installed a piece of swim noodle over the the flag so the ball stays up.

That's cool. Any bounce outs from it?

I suspect there will be. They were being installed this morning, so no experience a yet. Our greens have just been cored so it won't be a game changer at the moment. Though I am sure there will be moaners!

I am told that some courses in the US are shallowing out the hole to achieve a similar result.

I wouldn't want to die from a contaminated noodle!

At least there is comfort in knowing the public servants will still be employed.

Ours are similar. I have cut and pasted the bits that are either slightly different or add more detail (in the case of the bunker process)

    Bunkers
Preferred lies ( one card length maximum ) are permissible within all bunkers on the
course. Optional rule at the discretion of the player.
All bunkers rakes will be removed. Members should ensure they make every effort
to leave bunkers as tidy as possible.
    Greens Pins
It will be compulsory to leave greens pins in the hole. The hole cups will be made
shallower for easier access to your ball. A ball will still be considered holed if part of
its diameter sits above the lip of the hole.
    Scorecards
Players may enter their own hole scores on the scorecard, it is not necessary for the
marker to do it. At the end of the round all the marker needs to do is give a verbal
    recognition.
The player can then enter his score as normal through the scorecard kiosk and
confirm his score. The score card can then be placed in a bin provided.

There was no mention of NTP's, but that is an interesting one which may have been overlooked. Realistically, there is no way to measure the distance without touching something that others have also touched, which seems to be the main purpose of these rules.

I'm not sure whether it will be more fun, or less fun, and if scores will be higher or lower. I'll find out on Wednesday.
