The rule changed last year. You are able to repair a club broken accidentally (not in anger). I believe that he had spare fitted shafts in his car and they replaced the shaft, not the club.

I dont know why they are saying its local rule? its always been the rule as long as i can remember that you replace or repair a broken club in that circumstance.

Fair enough. I wasn’t aware there was a local rule they could use. The original rule change last year still would have prohibited this because Bryson damaged it, even if accidentally. https://www.randa.org/en/rog/2019/rules/the-rules-of-golf/rule-4#4-1b
Cinderella story, out of nowhere, former greenskeeper, now about to become a Masters champion..... It looks like a mirac.. It's in the hole! It's in the hole!

"Team?". Whats next. Even Tiger didnt have a team to help him when he famously only had one ball left during his record US Open win at Pebble.
Why wouldn't he have a team??

    Players have teams for years!!

I think that is a fair enough rule, in Tennis if you break a string you can go for another racquet without a code violation

Even the caddie/player is classified as a ‘team’.

The term ‘team’ is as throwaway line, the fact he snapped the shaft by leaning on it is the real critical matter.

Old “Thicc Boy” might need a new technique

I was under the impression accidental damage was always replaceable?

Hey, i know that! But I still thought this was funny. Who knows for what purpose the mad scientist has a team with him on the course. Maybe next time he will have them carry the spare shafts on them

It isn't a local rule, its in the ordinary Rules of Golf.

It would have been repairable under both the old and the new rule because it was damaged and rendered unplayable in the normal course of play

I think that is specifically prohibited, if not under the new rule at least under the old rule.

Phil and Nick commentating is interesting as Phil has always challenged Nick's love of himself.

Surely the feel good story of the PGA championships is 27yojs grinding his arse off Thursday night at the range to make a charge up the leaderboard Friday and sneak inside the cut line?

Should be a great final round.

There are a large number of possible feel good stories of guys in contention who either need another major on their resume (DJ, J Day, J Rose) or may elevate their record (Bryson, Morikawa, Finau, Berger). Of course Brooks will probably beat them all.

I shouldn't ever wish bad fortune on a golfer, but I really hope the Champ doesn't win. The bleating from the ball-goes-too-far brigade would be unbearable.

Apparently Haotong Li wasn't grinding as hard as the commentators made out.

Love to see Paul Casey or Tommy win it, Brooks can fall over arrogant sob, the Champ would be good or Scheffler, a newbie of some sort, Finau also comes to mind, the nice guy on the circuit

If Day can't get it done, I'd like to see someone win their first major. Morikawa, Champ or Bryson.

There are already a couple of 64s in from the back of the field, so the winner will have to go low to get there.

Conditions will be tougher for the afternoon players as the wind gets up and the fog starts rolling in. Holes 8 - 14 will sort the men from the boys. It’s a superb layout.
