Default 2019 Xmas Cup Now Sunday 12th January

Circumstances out of our control with serious fires in the immediate area have forced a cancellation of the December round for this years Xmas Cup.
We will now move the game to January as it would be a shame to just cancel it all together.
It will still be a Kenton Valley Super Par 3

2019 Xmas Cup Sunday January 12th
Where: Kenton Valley Super Par 3 https://kentonvalleygolfcourse.com/
    Time: Tee off 8:30am
To make things interesting and a little fun we play a $1 per hole Skins plus 2x $1 NTP off the most elevated Par 3 both times around making it $20 on top of the days Green Fees which are $20.
Participation in the fun Skins is entirely optional and not essential if that doesn't float your boat.
Skins money can be paid to TC in advance via Bank Transfer.
Green Fee is payable on the day.
A few of us usually bring out 1/2 sets of Vintage Clubs for this (entirely optional if you chose to do this)
Lunch will most likely be something simple from the Amber Light Cafe if we are early or Hotel in Lobethal if we are close to 12 noon (they don't start lunch before 12).

Just spoke with the course. All good for Sunday

Kenton Valley has just opened two Par 4's before Christmas making it now an 11 hole golf course

Potentially we could run the two new holes as the wild cards. Im not sure how they have structured it though in relation to the rest of the course. I guess we will turn up and see

PM to go out shortly regarding $20 payment to my bank account. For those newbies please ensure you send me your bank details. In saying that though I have an idea (an obvious one regarding the skins money for this year) that I will cast a vote on during lunch

TC, I'm dropping out, have too much to do at Crafers. I'll try and join you for lunch, keep my $20 to do with as you please

Once again an enjoyable outing for the postponed Christmas Cup at the Kenton Valley GC. This is one of our best events of the year, playing to win but not taken overly seriously, a good social outing. Considering how much of the surrounding area has been devastated by the recent bush-fires the course appears to have escaped untouched; we saw plenty of destruction, burnt trees and scorched earth on the drive there.

Congratulations to the new holder of the Mug - Waza, well played. Also, thanks to TC for keeping track of the scores/winnings via his tablet throughout the round.

CC: Blackwood is a much better option in the hills, only 10 mins from Stirling. Will send you bank details today

TC , not Stirling in the hills , Stirling North it’s a 9 hole blacks course , made by railway workers in the 50’s
I used to jump the fence when I was 10 , it’s where I learnt to play and in its current condition I could not recommend it to play
It relies on rain for what natural grass grows there it looks more like the Simpson desert at the moment

I've played the Stirling course in the hills 2 weeks ago and the course is actually in very good condition. I know some people don't like it but it's quite enjoyable this time of year.

Touche CC, haven't played much out Clare way so not sure of the golf course, sounds a bit like Royal Edithburgh on the yorks; a rockbelt fairway with really thick scrapes.

Flavzz: My brother used to be a member of Mt Lofty Stirling a number of years ago; he liked it. Sadly I can't really get into it other than a couple of holes from memory

Thanks for a most enjoyable day everyone.
Special thanks to TC for collection of Skins $ and running the live score sheet.
Easily one of the most enjoyable SA OzGolf rounds of the year.
For some reason the Skins and 2x bonus holes format just works adding a little interest to a great day.
Congrats to Wazamac for winning the Xmas Mug.

I think we will continue to play the old lay out and play the 1st, 9th and 18th as par 3's.
Those holes changing to Par 4's has added nothing to the course and it was/is much better in it's previous layout.

That 9th hole reminded me of Greenhills adventure park's zig zag green. If only I could find a photo of it somewhere

The greens were very disappointing this year, with a heavy core they will be much better
