Simon Hawkes. Simon is long, but Champ was 40-60m past him on most drives. Very low trajectory with driver. I was talking to the Ping fitter on the range as he was doing a semi-fitting with Champ and he mentioned they have changed how they fit because of him (I think it was higher spin for high speed players to keep it in play).

Champ was a really nice guy.

Heard Ryan Fox being interviewed after winning the OOM.

Funny how a hole gets in your head, he played the par 5 15th in 3 over, Scott was 6 under.

The flight on Champs drives must have been something to see. I've seen it noted that he launches his driver at just 7° but 190+mph.

Yeah that’s awesome. I knew the gig given Fox and Ormsby had cards.

It is on the ABC, just in case viewers can't find it.

The men's field is woefully weak. Just as well the Aussie Euro Tour players have turned up, because nobody else from the Euro Tour is there. Marcus Fraser is in the afternoon marquee group because they couldn't find anybody else the average punter has heard of.

Fortunately for non-discriminatory viewers like me, the Ladies field is really strong.

Interesting why you say the field is weak? ( genuine question) Could it be that its only the Vic Open, and its probably no weaker or stronger then any other state open from former seasons?.

Agreed, the Vic Open continues to grow each year from what I see. Good sponsors, ideal facility for the combined field, has had some good tv presence the last few years.

You aint getting too many top 50-100 guys and gals there when they're in the middle of the Desert swings on the US/Euro Tours. Some good events you'd be passing up.

Blakey, it is a Eurotour event ......and a win gives the player a Tour card. Must b tempting to mid ranked Aussie plaers. The women’s field is the real deal.

Seems a good field, particularly the women’s.

It is co=sanctioned with the European Tour, in the same way as the Australian PGA was, but the Euro Tour players aren't supporting it. I'm not expecting the Ryder Cup players to be competing, but I would think the players on the edge who have just won, or just lost their cards to be here in an effort to pick up valuable points. As it happens, one of the few guys from that category who are here, Canizares, is the leader.

I partly raise the point because there is another event in Perth next week. If the Euro's aren't going to support them, we might lose them, which would be a shame.

Likely due to the ISPS Handa Women's Australian Open being on next week which is co-sanctioned with the LPGA Tour.
