Default The Cricket Season of 2019/20

OK. I'll do it, even though I will offer no opinions of cricket because I do not wish to reopen old wounds.

Here's a new thread for the new season.

The one thing I'll offer about today's play is how would you like to have been Naseem Shah today? You are 16, playing your first test, and your first ball is from Mitchell Starc hurling it down at 145k and looking for a hat trick. Welcome to test cricket, young man.

Good days play - pity no-one was there at the ground to see it. I still don't get why they start Test matches on a Thursday ...

Anyway, the four Aussie bowlers stuck to the task well, and the home team would probably be the happier of the two at the end of day 1. Will be interesting to see if any Australian batsmen (whose name isn't Smith) can get into double figures.

Backing Burns to play well on his home track and make a good solid start of 50+ only to be dropped for the next test for Bancroft who goes on to make scores of 3,7 but keeps his spot.

If Burns makes 50 he’ll follow it up with 3 and 7.
    He’s quite the inconsistent spud.

Selectors aren’t that bad , they will replace him with Mitch Marsh as soon as his hand heals .

I'm guessing so they can have the mandatory 3 day break between the first and second tests and start the second on a Friday when it is at a venue where the members tend to turn up? Admittedly a lot of them sit out the back and don't watch a ball of the game, but it still counts as attending...

After a poor first session Australia's bowling improved dramatically. We weren't far off taking the last four wickets for 0 runs. Despite some failures on the sub continent the Warner/Burns combination sports fantastic numbers and has multiple 200+ run opening stands. Fantastic batting by both and Lubuschagne simply continued from where he left off over in England. Hopefully at some point he will go on with one and reward himself.

Australia will seldom have a better opportunity to post a huge total. Anything less than batting Pakistan into the ground will be a failure. Smith would be champing at the bit after watching all day yesterday. I hope he's not fried.

Smith may not be needed , been a longtime since the first three Aussie batsmen have all posted good scores in one innings

Certainly good to see. I'm not sure how good all this commotion is for poor Marnus given he's staring a maiden 100 in the face.

Warner is a dickhead, but he’s our dickhead. Great to have him back.
Cinderella story, out of nowhere, former greenskeeper, now about to become a Masters champion..... It looks like a mirac.. It's in the hole! It's in the hole!

Cameron Green from WA looks like a good one to follow over the next few years. Bowls with good heat and has just scored his second 100 in three games. Technically looks pretty solid with both bat and ball. Only 20 or 21, but looks like a good prospect.

Needs to change his name to Cameron Marsh to get a run with the test team

And Ponting is already calling for him to be in the test squad apparently, nothing like killing a young career with expectations of being the great all-rounder!

Great bowling this game by Starcers and god it's good to have someone other than the big 2 scoring loads of runs. Wade's looked good too.

I vote for Travis Head as Man Of The Match. Didn't bat, didn't bowl, did he take any catches?

It can't have happened too often in games that weren't rain affected.
