Default 2019 QLD Championships - Yeppoon

    Good morning fellow Ozgolfers,

I would like to welcome you to the 2019 Ozgolf Queensland championships in laid-back Yeppoon.

The prestigious Duncan Bennett Memorial Trophy will again be up for grabs as golfers across the country compete to be Qld's top Ozgolfer. Last year some jerk took the trophy by shooting a weekend total of 66pts of a crap handicap to win - so this year it should be a doddle for someone to take the chocolates.

Kicking off Friday 6th September, and finishing on Monday 9th September, we aim to bring some of country QLD's finest golf.

    THE GOLF:

    Friday 6th September - Rockhampton GC: https://www.rockygolfclub.org.au/
16 Spots, 12:30pm first group. Walking or Carts. Also includes the terrifying 2-ball Banana Cup best ball multiplier
$40 inc prize fee. Carts - $35/cart. Rocky have extensive recips, so let me know if this is you.

    Saturday 7th September
    - Capricorn Resort: http://www.capricornresortgolf.com.au/
16 spots, 12:30pm first group. Test yourself on one of queensland's great layouts.
    CHAMPS Day 1
$60 inc prize fee. Carts included.

    Sunday 8th September - Capricorn Resort: http://www.capricornresortgolf.com.au/
16 spots, 8:00am first group. I might be a prick and tip this out. Unless I have a chance of the prize.
    CHAMPS Day 2
$60 inc prize fee. Carts included.

Monday 9th September - Emu Park GC: http://www.emuparkgolfclub.com.au/
12 Spots, 7:30am first group. Walking or Carts.
    $30 inc prize fee. Carts - $35/cart

    The Prizes:

Long drive / Multiple NTP for balls every day. Daily cash prizes for 1st and 2nd (and maybe 3rd), overall podiums, and best gross.

    ACCOMMODATION:
Bookings start Friday night, through to Sunday night at the Coast Motel, just outside of Yeppoon. http://www.thecoastmotel.com.au/index.html

Very close to Yeppoon central - pubs / surf club, and a short walk to the beach.

I have booked 5x twin share rooms. Queen bed rooms also available for the solo riders.
    Solo room - $125/night
Share room - $68/night per person

    LOGISTICS:
Being an 8hr-ish drive Brisbane to Rocky, I am able to break the trip up with limited accom in Maryborough (just under half way) at Chateau de Benno on Thursday night / Monday night. I have 3 beds and 2 couches, and could possibly set up a camper in the back yard.

Can also play at Maryborough on Thursday (or Hervey Bay if comp is essential).

    And the fine print:
    1. You will not be considered as entered until you supply your Full name, club and Golflink.
    2. Payments due by End August. Late entries will be accepted pending availability.
    3. All rounds for championship purposes will be scored as stableford.
    4. We do this for fun, so don't be a dick if we don't quite have what you want, or you don't like it.

Payment by bank transfer - Please leave your user name and QLD as the message ie "QLD - username"

Since there is 4 of us playing Monday, we could play there instead if you like. It's pretty "rough" though. Rocky itself is always worth a play too. Top country track.

I had no preference. I was just wondering if there was a reason for the course selection, and if it's "rough" then that would be it.

Day off today to pack and get the girls ready for their grandparents on duty!

Strong chance for the Naga and women’s champ double!

It is just over 24 hours until I hit the road. I've spent some of today building a Rockhampton GC guide based on their site's virtual tour. I've already done it for Capricorn.

You don’t need a guide, it’s bomb and gauge at rocky and stay out of the kak at Capricornia .

It was just a copy and paste job anyway.

I was going to play the Maleny 12 hole course on the way up tomorrow, but their website says that it may be 18 holes by early next year, so I'm considering saving a round up there until then. Maybe 9 holes at Noosa Valley instead.

Have fun everyone, wish I was there.

Golf is, in part, a game; but only in part. It is also in part a religion, a fever, a vice, a mirage, a frenzy, a fear, an abscess, a joy, a thrill, a pest, a disease, an uplift, a brooding, a melancholy, a dream of yesterday and a hope for tomorrow. - New York Tribune, 1916.

Flour, at 7.45am tomorrow I reckon. Or whenever you you feel. Groups will be released at breakfast tomorrow, but I have a feeling you are in group 3.

If you hear that today I said that "you don't win a Champs on the Friday", then that's fake news. Shaz and I are now the Banana Cup holders with a mighty 1pt victory.

Back 9 par 3's. Course was in great nick, and weather was amazing at 23deg and a light south-easter.
