Default 2019 QLD Championships - Yeppoon

    Good morning fellow Ozgolfers,

I would like to welcome you to the 2019 Ozgolf Queensland championships in laid-back Yeppoon.

The prestigious Duncan Bennett Memorial Trophy will again be up for grabs as golfers across the country compete to be Qld's top Ozgolfer. Last year some jerk took the trophy by shooting a weekend total of 66pts of a crap handicap to win - so this year it should be a doddle for someone to take the chocolates.

Kicking off Friday 6th September, and finishing on Monday 9th September, we aim to bring some of country QLD's finest golf.

    THE GOLF:

    Friday 6th September - Rockhampton GC: https://www.rockygolfclub.org.au/
16 Spots, 12:30pm first group. Walking or Carts. Also includes the terrifying 2-ball Banana Cup best ball multiplier
$40 inc prize fee. Carts - $35/cart. Rocky have extensive recips, so let me know if this is you.

    Saturday 7th September
    - Capricorn Resort: http://www.capricornresortgolf.com.au/
16 spots, 12:30pm first group. Test yourself on one of queensland's great layouts.
    CHAMPS Day 1
$60 inc prize fee. Carts included.

    Sunday 8th September - Capricorn Resort: http://www.capricornresortgolf.com.au/
16 spots, 8:00am first group. I might be a prick and tip this out. Unless I have a chance of the prize.
    CHAMPS Day 2
$60 inc prize fee. Carts included.

Monday 9th September - Emu Park GC: http://www.emuparkgolfclub.com.au/
12 Spots, 7:30am first group. Walking or Carts.
    $30 inc prize fee. Carts - $35/cart

    The Prizes:

Long drive / Multiple NTP for balls every day. Daily cash prizes for 1st and 2nd (and maybe 3rd), overall podiums, and best gross.

    ACCOMMODATION:
Bookings start Friday night, through to Sunday night at the Coast Motel, just outside of Yeppoon. http://www.thecoastmotel.com.au/index.html

Very close to Yeppoon central - pubs / surf club, and a short walk to the beach.

I have booked 5x twin share rooms. Queen bed rooms also available for the solo riders.
    Solo room - $125/night
Share room - $68/night per person

    LOGISTICS:
Being an 8hr-ish drive Brisbane to Rocky, I am able to break the trip up with limited accom in Maryborough (just under half way) at Chateau de Benno on Thursday night / Monday night. I have 3 beds and 2 couches, and could possibly set up a camper in the back yard.

Can also play at Maryborough on Thursday (or Hervey Bay if comp is essential).

    And the fine print:
    1. You will not be considered as entered until you supply your Full name, club and Golflink.
    2. Payments due by End August. Late entries will be accepted pending availability.
    3. All rounds for championship purposes will be scored as stableford.
    4. We do this for fun, so don't be a dick if we don't quite have what you want, or you don't like it.

Payment by bank transfer - Please leave your user name and QLD as the message ie "QLD - username"

If it’ll help here’s me saying I can’t make it either. Wife’s birthday that weekend so I’ll be babysitting/parenting while she’s away with some mates. And I’m up in Brissie the following weekend so 2 long weekends away in a row is a difficult negotiation even if it wasn’t her birthday anyway.
Cinderella story, out of nowhere, former greenskeeper, now about to become a Masters champion..... It looks like a mirac.. It's in the hole! It's in the hole!

    The courses look fine.
Getting back from 5 weeks overseas not long before this, totally rules me out.

I’ve only got one Champs trip in me this year and I’ve done it already.

Let me see if I can make this work.

What would be the best way to get there from Sydney? I would have to be back by Sunday night.

    Same here.

Golf is, in part, a game; but only in part. It is also in part a religion, a fever, a vice, a mirage, a frenzy, a fear, an abscess, a joy, a thrill, a pest, a disease, an uplift, a brooding, a melancholy, a dream of yesterday and a hope for tomorrow. - New York Tribune, 1916.

Brad, when were you thinking of going up? I'll probably go from Hendra (near Bris airport) on Thursday afternoon, then crash at Benno's and share a car with someone from there, if I'm not already sharing from Brisbane.

Jono? Bushy? Are you guys in?

My leave just got approved (I hadn't got around to applying for it).

Benno, I guess you want some money to come your way about now?

Yeah, send it through when you can please.

And money's received from BITS and the RS's.

Brad, you're welcome to stop with Andy at my place half way up (and down if required). I wouldn't be against jumping in the Navara as well if the option is still there.

I've just transferred, although I fear that I won't be able to have a share room with the current numbers.

Is this still on? It's just a little quiet in here.

I'm looking like a lock for the NAGA.

My planning is in full swing. The current plan is to try and leave work at lunch time on Thursday and go via Maleny GC for a few holes and Glass House Brewery for dinner, on the way to Benno's.

I've looked up the two breweries in the Rocky area too. One in the heart of Rocky, which seems like it puts on a good feed too, and one with limited hours in an industrial area in Yeppoon. For the latter, only the Saturday morning is really available to us or the Sunday arvo, if Facebook is to be believed; it would be good for bottle fills though, they'll even fill a 1.25L plastic soft drink bottle for you, if you want. $15 per litre seems like a bargain too.

There's also a parkrun in Yeppoon and Rocky, in case you were wondering......

Who has played at Capricorn before? Their website has a course guide, but it needs a yards to metres conversion. I hope the course isn't marked like that.

Whole thing is in yards mate. Just remember not to flush it so hard and your distances will be fine!

If I use the distance indications as metres, then all of my fat shots should work out pretty well.

Have you played the other courses? Any reason for those two over North Rockhampton?

I see on your google map that you have played them all except Emu Park.
