I'm diving on the Nairne hit. Have played there once and I've got too much to fit in this week. See you at Oakbank and lunch

Nippy this morning, was showing 2.5* on the way, but had risen to 5* when we got to Nairne GC. Course much more hilly than expected, my dodgy knees are not too happy now.

Flavzz and myself missed Oakbank GC due to diverting to get his car back from his mechanic.

Thanks for the hit gentlemen, the golf was patchy but it was all worth once 1:30 came at the barker hotel.

Nairne was a quirky old fashioned layout. I reckon the course has not changed since its inception in 1933. Would be fun with hickories and plus 4s on. When we teed off it was around 5 degrees. Probably not the best time to play it.

Oakbank surprised me a bit. The layout is reasonable with some good holes. My pick is 7, has a good approach shot. The greens are cut a tad too fast for their size but rolled very true.

Pub was excellent, good food and company

    Till next time.....

    I remember the first at Nairne,and a par 3 - about the 4th?
If anyone can hit the first in two, they are too good to be playing at Nairne.

The greens condition doesn't surprise me.
I also recall the nut grass on the last three holes lining the fairways - very severe rough. This was nearly 40 years ago!

Quite enjoyed Nairne for what it was. 6 over for the nine. Funny when you play care free golf you tend to play much better. Also enjoyed seeing Neil keep his putter in the bag for the entire 9 holes 😅

Thanks to all for the good company and hit.
Nairne was very cold early in the morning.
I like the concept of play 3 holes and your back to the club house 3x.
Fairways are just mown natural grass and greens are just the same cut lower.
The first hole is by far the hardest at 380m off an elevated tee than a gradual climb back up the slope to a kidney shaped green. Keeping to the right with the tee shot is essential if you don’t want to start with a double or worse. Go down the left and it's a series of tall Gums that stop the chance of getting anywhere near the green to make bogey or better. The fairway sloping left to right with the OOB fence getting closer to being in play the closer you get to the green on the right makes it all the more difficult approaching from anywhere left.

Oakbank was a much easier walk being mostly flat. The greens were a more sensible pace than the last time I played it but still say they are on the side of too quick for the tiny upside down bowl shaped greens and slopes.

The Barker Hotel meals were good value.

thanks for the description, and the routing comments. brings back memories. I'd forgotten 3 came back as well as 6.
I remember that there were preferred lies on the green (6 inches I think) back in 1980 or so - things haven't changed!
