    Default WDYSTM June 2019

I got the month right for a change... look at me go!

Monthly Medal this morning. 77/73. Solid score, but in reality it was a handful of shit holes offset by 4 birdies.

First round back after a 5 week injury break (ribs). 86/69, I've never had such a roller coaster.

I need to get rid of those bad holes - made some poor shot choices today (and followed it up with a second one on 9). Oh well.

Monthly medal at the Mary today. Nothing spectacular, just bogeys and pars for 81 nett 71.

The greens have responded to the cooler weather and lower cutting, so struggled to sink anything early, but came good at the end with some nice par save putts.

Lowlight was knifing 2 chips across the 7th and 10th greens, highlight was reminding my coach (whom was in my group) that he is shit short game teacher. 2nd highlight is still the love for the F9 driver.

A crappy 27 points for me today. Let me list the excuses I have been able to think of so far.

A three club wind. Downwind chipping was a nightmare.
It was cold as well. So cold I was forced to wear long trousers. I don't recall wearing longs at all last winter.
    I changed clubs over to the B set. I wish I hadn't.
    My swing wasn't very good.
My short game was even worse. Instead of saving me shots, I cost myself shots around and on the greens.

All in all, it was a rare day when I wish I had not played.

Interesting comment on long pants, I thought the same on Saturday.

    Think positve, Jim.

A scrappy 28 at the Mary yesterday. Struggled with a sore back and subsequent lack of turn. No pants required, and only 3 holes in the jumper.

92/81 yesterday. 42 around the front with 2 doubles in strong, cold southerly blowing off the snow, fast greens and genuinely tricky pin positions. Thought that was ok, until the 10th, where I dumped my second in the front bunker where it plugged in the face, proceeded to flub the pitch to the back pin, and 4 putt from 30m for a snowman. Which I followed with another snowman 3 holes later.

Turns out nett 75 won all grades in a field nearing 100 - it was a tough day.

I had it in my head that Benno couldn't play comps there, or his guest couldn't or something like that. What was his membership restriction?

Can do both mate, but only get limited rounds per year. Still have 8 to get through before end of September if you are keen.

Absolutely. I would really appreciate it, especially as I'm still hurting from missing the Champs Friday.

I'm pretty flexible at the moment, with not much work on. I should be fine to take leave any day.

09/06/2019, Jindalee GC, Social 9 Holes.

A couple of boozy nights, plus little sleep after watching Barty play, wasn't great preparation for an early morning hit. I was half decent off the tee, but struggled elsewhere, especially with the tough pins they had out there. I had the ball come back to my feet twice on one hole.

3/6 effective tee shots, 5/9 greens, 19 putts, 0/4 up and downs, 0/1 sand saves.
    4 pars, 2 bogeys, 3 others.
    Scoring: XXBPPXBPP - 42 (+9)

I shot a mostly solid 33 points with a disappointing 37 putts. I really need to sort my short game out.

Played Saturday/Sunday at Medway in the Par (Plus/Minus) format. I don't know why but I really don't like it, not as fun for me. Saturday i finished at minus 7 which was pretty bad, missed a lot of greens with short irons and couldn't hole a putt. Sunday i rebounded well to finish plus 1, still missed some greens where I shouldn't, rolled in more putts but still had a couple bad efforts. Dropped to 5.0 with my handicap so it's going the right direction.

My second rubbish game in a row today, for 29 points. Suddenly, golf has become very difficult.

The worst part was a case of the chipping yips. Every chip shot I left myself seemed to be out of a bad lie on wet ground. A perfect recipe for a decel chunk. I was reduced to putting from anywhere within 10 metres of the green just to get the ball on.

While struggling to find any positives, both the off-green putting and on-green putting was pretty good, otherwise a bad score may have been even worse.

After two bad games in a row, the pressure was on, because three disasters in a row is officially a slump in my eyes.

As it happened I played reasonably well, and much better than my previous rounds, for 34 points.

The other highlight was one of my playing partners recording his first ever 5 pointer, only to follow it up with 4 ones in a row. We took great delight in counting them for him.

Stableford today at Medway, finished with 15/19 for 34 points 78 off the stick with three wipes. Bit of a could have been round, played well for the most part, couple bad approaches let me down and couldn't quite convert as many birdies as I should have. Managed to drop .2 of a shot down to 4.8 now so that was a positive. Game is trending.

A measly 38 points but good enough for a win !

3 doubles on the front but managed to pull finger to come home -1. 79 gross.
