    Default Retirement and golf

How many of you are retired and playing golf?
How many times a week do you play, and how does the golf and body hold up?
I’ll add another - do you find the golf is enough and what else keeps you occupied through the week/s?

    Yes, 12 years now.
    3/4 times a week.
The golf has been relatively steady, but you do get hot or really cold for periods of time. Have been as low as 7.9 and as high as 14.4 GA in the last 4 years.

I nearly always walk and if I am playing regularly then I tend to get "match fit" and pull up reasonably well for a 60 year old, I guess. But a recent break for travel etc has highlighted that you need to play regularly or have a separate fitness regime to keep it up.

I used to play other courses fairly regularly, but that has fallen away in the last couple of years. Ours is a flat track and easy going. I am about to get back into playing other courses regularly, I have purchased an Electric Buggy so I can still enjoy the walk with a little less wear and tear.

    Semi retired
No more than twice a week unless on tour
Body: get sore feet these days, nothing else
Game: do virtually no practice, been the same range handicap (5-9) for 30 years, like Daves, it wavers a bit.

Got a big tour this year which will be 20 odd games in a month, slightly concerned about the body holding up.

    Retired for 12 years, congrats.
Do you have any other interests out of golf?

    I'm almost 6 years retired.

The number of times I play golf is related to the 'keep you occupied' question.

I found it was important to develop and keep a routine in retirement. Essentially, and health and weather permitting, I do the same things on the same days. A bicycle ride one day, a walk another day, golf practice another day, play comp golf once or twice a week.

Golf is one of the best things for occupying your time. I don't get any better at it, but I still enjoy it.

One other golf-related thing I've noticed. I am now totally a fair weather golfer. Because I can play any time, I don't bust my guts to get in a game under any weather conditions. So I don't play in the rain, and I think about not playing if it will be too hot.

Golf is the main one, but also do a bit of Fishing, Camping and Hunting and we are starting to do more travel as we can. I also play around with Clubs at lot!

PG raises a very good issue and that is your feet tend to suffer the most. Buy the most comfortable Golf Shoes you can afford! And visit a (good) Podiatrist regularly for check ups. It does make a difference.

When my dad retired, he still kept to his normal daily golf timing at 3pm with 9nholes with his mates who are still working. And play Saturday and Sunday.

During the day he has his veggie garden to look after, or he would volunteer his time to maintain the local churchs garden.

His main issue was his back, but typical Asian dad, he never complained about it.

76 here, wife and I play 2-3 games a week. We are both with heart problems and arthritis, and walk with a buggy for cardio exercise.

That’s actually great your able to get around together.
Moreso the arthritis, how is your recovery?
Or is playing a few times a week keeping you in motion and avoiding any required recovery

I haven't had any other serious interests outside of golf and punting...…….ever.

Being a degenerate punter takes up a fair bit of time (markets and horses, no pokies)
