Default Lakeside Country Club, Gold Coast

Yesterday, on a day off work, and before heading to Movieworld for a few hours, I played at Lakeside Country Club. It is a nine hole course in Coombabah, with eight par threes and one par four (the eighth).

I thought about booking through ISG online, but there were plenty of tee times available, and I thought that it would be better if all of the money went to the club, and I wasn't sure what time I would arrive. I was lightly scolded when I arrived for not booking in, and was told that ISG grab their money via a separate booking fee anyway. They told me to "sneak" on straight away before a few other groups. In the end, I don't know where these groups were, as I slowly went around with two singles a hole in front of me, and noone within two holes behind me.

I wasn't sure what to expect of the course, and I had read that it can get pretty boggy with very little rain, and with a nine hole green fee of $12 (or $20 for 18 holes), I didn't expect too much. However, I was pleasantly surprised, as it seemed to be in good condition in general, the greens were fine, and there was enough variety in the holes, including a couple of water carries to start the round.

One problem I had was that my Bushnell GPS didn't even have the course, Garmin has the scorecard wrong, and Gamegolf seems to have the first hole missing and the routing wrong. What a nightmare!!!

    Here's some pictures:

The opening tee shot. It's only 120m, but it is a bit daunting to start.

Then another clearance on the second, which is a bit longer at 150m+.

How's the serenity? From the fourth tee looking across to the fifth green, and the swamp lands in the background. Plenty of roos.

From the sixth green, looking out over Coombabah Lake.

    The course layout.

The scorecard (excuse my putt length scribblings).

    $12? That's a bargain. $625 for a 7 day membership too.

Photos make it look like alot of fun mate. I'm a big fan of 9 holers, if every $hithouse 18 hole goat track decided to downsize and build a good 9 hole track the world would be full of awesome golf.

    Sweetens Cove is the model.

Default Lakeside Country Club, Gold Coast

If it wasn't mostly par 3, it would definitely be worth multiple visits at that price. It's very accessible from Brisbane, being on the north side of the Gold Coast too. It also isn't aligned with the AGU unfortunately, so only an internal handicap.

I did do a search on the forum beforehand to try to find some comments about it, but it was hard to filter out Camden Lakeside stuff. The only thing I could see was that it may have been a little bigger, but the land was sold off. There is some housing around the clubhouse and it was a little bit of a walk from the first tee and ninth green, to suggest there may have been more.

It's not a bad little course. I had a few playing lessons there with Addam.

He was the one that was discussing with Blakey, that there had been a change. They had lots a practice bunker or something.

I think it use to have 12 Holes at one time. Played it 6-8 years ago and it was 9 hole then, but in pretty average condition. Sounds like it has improved.
