I feel like the old man shaking my fist at the clouds but there is nothing wrong with getting beaten by a better player, makes the winning sweeter when you get better yourself. Well anyway that's how it worked in the 80s.

And it is great to beat a player, or even come close to one that has a better handicap. I really pushed a guy that played off 2 once at his home course, while I was playing off 8 or 9. Playing a better player helped bring out some good golf from me.

I am not a fan of handicap matchplay my opponents all seem to lift and play out of their skins it’s hard enough giving them 14 shots let alone have them shoot ten under their cap

Most of my games have only seen 1 or 2 shots either way.I did have to give up 4 shots when playing away last year. That was a mind f...k to start with. But I got it together and got the Win 4&2.Some of the best golf I have played.I rattled off 7 pars in a row.
Olinda doesn't field a scratch team.

I had to give up 6 the first two weeks - took it to the 17th and 18th, but wasn't quite good enough to get the head start. Losing holes with birdies to their birdie+shot sucked.

I was talking about standard matchplay in reply to PerryGroves, so no handicap was involved.

That's what Grumpy prefers as well.We both got beaten by the same player 2 weeks in a row.He is a 20 handicapper that has a knack of playing good golf when their is something to win.
If we had a scratch team then I would nominate for that.
Their are a lot of bad stories when it comes to handicap matches and shots.

I knew that was just saying I don’t like playing choppers / bandits especially in summer and it’s amazing how well they play against me . I gave a 24 capper 14 shots once won it on the 18 th 1 up , had 4 birdies in a row and was under par for the 18 .

We have the pennant final at work tomorrow. Let’s see how they cope with the pins tucked into the middle of the greens. Front, middle, rear all dead centre. Not what they will be expecting. Our club isn’t in any of the finals, so hopefully get some good feedback, unless the wanna be pros expect a harder setup. Don’t have to worry bout the final for another 6 years hopefully.

They core a few days before hosting pennants? That’s just silly

Do u think Pennant sits high on a club’s reno scheduling? Especially if it is a neutral course!

I was asked when we were doing ours as the final was 1 month away. We are a neutral course in this case. I can’t see how a mini tine and top dress will greatly effect the scores too much. If it’s a full blown one then the pennant should be scheduled around that. Why should your members put off their clubs reno, just to suit visiting teams?.... that’s how we deal with playing schedules in my experience.

They play home and away , the league Olinda play in is associated with public courses and social clubs attached to public courses so you are correct that some of the council run courses couldn’t give a rats about the clubs

Craigieburn is a public course, the golf club doesn't have any control over what the sporting club decides. The coring was very light,at worst it made the greens slower, but more advantage to attack flags as they were also soft
