    Default Top 5 lifetime drivers

Please list top 5 drivers you’ve used in your life. It doesn’t have to be the longest but the one that stood out for you at that time and stayed with longer than your usual love affair with a driver.

    For me, in chronological order:

    1) Hogan Apex persimmon driver - this is the first ever driver I used and I absolutely loved it. Had a more lively sound than other persimmons and the feel was unreal. The hosel snapped and and after couple of goes by the club pro, I moved on to a metal head driver.
    2) Cobra stainless deep face driver - the one that Tiger used to win the 97 Masters. I had this with the stock graphite stiff. Very good sound and feel and a penetrating flight.
    3) Aurora driver with NV stiff - this was a gem find. No name driver that performed better for me than the big names.
    4) Ping i15 with Project X 7A3 shaft - this combo was very stable and long. Unfortunately the shaft snapped and I moved onto the next driver.
    5) Adams Speedline 9064 LS with Fujikura Rombax 6x07 - the longest combo I’ve used. Not very forgiving and you had to swing hard. Sold this when I tore my rotator cuff and I knew I wouldn’t be able to make this driver work again.

Still haven’t found “the one” since I started playing again but Rogue SZ I’m using now has potential with the right shaft and I have the F9 with Fuji Atmos coming soon.

    In random order:

1- Adams GT 363 R (illegal cor) just the longest thing ever
2- TM - R7 Quad ( had if for 10 years and super consistent)
3 - Epic SZ - just long and forgiving
4 - Honma Persimmon 1.5 wood, learnt to use this while watching Norman and grades in their heyday
5 - Callaway C4 (best sounding driver and soft feel )

    1. Titleist 975J - my first Titanium driver. I had no idea what to do with it at that stage but got me started, purchased it for $599 from Kerry Ellis Golf. Apparently it had a really good EI-70 shaft in it, didn't really like the feel of it though
    2. Callaway X460 Pro 9 degrees - this baby got me into golf, after a long golf hiatus (playing tennis) then returning to Adelaide I purchased this driver off 3balls for $89. It had a Fujikura stiff shaft that felt so solid it made me realise that a firm shaft is what im looking for in a driver
    3. Callaway FT-9 - this was a freebie when I purchased a set of Eye 2 Be Cu's, hated the high ball flight at first but once I adapted a flatter swing she went long
    4. Mizuno JPX 850 - this bad boy has been in my bag for a long time, the best looking driver I have ever seen. Although not forgiving any shot you want to play on demand it will deliver, high fade, low fade, high draw, stinger, it has it all! You have to find dead center with Mizuno drivers, when you do they are incredibly long
    5. Callaway Epic - big shout out to Kriso! this $150 plunge has paid dividends, consistently long and considerably more forgiving than the Mizzy 850. Still haven't nailed it completely with this driver but we are getting there.

I haven't been in the game as long as some here, but here the best 5 I have owned:
    1. Mizuno MP Type 2. Referring TC above, this is THE Mizuno driver where you don't have to find dead center to get it to go.
    2. Cobra Bio Cell +
    3. Nike Covert 2.0

That's it. F9 is likely to be on the list when I get home to hit it.

For the low swing speed division ...

    1. Ping G20
    2. Taylormade RBZ (Original)
    3. Ping G10
    4. Nike Titanium 350cc (matched T40 fairways) for accuracy vs. later Ignite 460cc for ear-piercing distance
    5. I just realised the Ping G SFT has been in the bag for 18 months

Special mention ... PGF Status 2w - Laminated and over 40 years old.
Used one when clubs were stolen in 1984, and later bought a 2nd hand Status HiTech (with carbon fibre face plate), which I could swing like a 5w, mainly because it turned out to have a ladies shaft (blush).
About 10 years ago, the loan clubs at Berridale had a 3w that also went like the clappers, but I couldn't bring myself to 'extend the loan' of a club donated to a country course.
You don't get me. I'm part of the Union.

    1. Titleist 975J - never had one when they were big, bought one very early in my OzG tenure. Currently the driver in my "retro" bag
    2. Taylormade 2016 M2 - feels great, flies great
    3. Taylormade Firesole - this thing went!
    4. Callaway FT-9 - best feeling driver I've ever hit
    5. Adams 9015D - the longest driver I've ever hit, but only when you hit the absolute sweet spot, which is the size of an atom

    This is the best
Adams 9015D with original Speeder 757, only stopped using it because I kept losing balls in the next postcode.

    1. Cobra Persimmon Driver - bought Driver, 3 wood and 5 wood from the Glenelg Pro Shop on the last day of country Gold Week. These replace the std Laminated Cobras that came with the Tour Model II Irons after having a very good night on the Black Jack Tables at the Casino. I picked up set of these 2yrs ago for the Vintage bag but only a 2 wood not a Driver.

    2. Callaway Big Berth S2H2 9 degree - ordered one that afternoon after having a hit of my Pennant opponents after our match had finished. Hit big high long carry draws all day. Best driver I every had and should never have changed my swing or traded up to Titanium. I acquired one a few years ago but can't hit it like I used to sadly.

    3. Titleist 975D 9 degree - after a 5 different Callaway Drivers it was time for a change. Great penetrating flight into the wind with this one. I've still got this Driver.

    4. Callaway ERC II 9 degree - got this for $150 cheaper than most shops were selling them for and it was still over 1K. Closest Driver I'd got to with consistency to the Big Bertha S2H2. Was gaming this when I gave the game away and didn't know it had been made illegal during my absence. Only found out by chance 2 months before I decided to take up club membership and competitive Gold again. Could have been a bit embarrassing to find out on first comp day. I've still got this Driver

    5. Cobra Bio Cell+ with UST Axivcore 89 Tour Black - most consistent Driver I've had since replacing the ERC II

It was crazy how expensive this driver was. I remember one of my playing partners bought this. He was long to start with but gained 20+ meters. He was hitting short/mid irons into par 5’s. It would be interesting to see how it compares with today’s drivers in distance.

I don't remember shafts, list below in no particular order:

    - Oscar Jones oversized metal
My first ever metal wood as a junior. From memory it was a S2H2 knockoff, but it went like a rocket.

    - Callaway FTi square head
    Loved that thing.

    - Callaway ERC
Another rocket, remember hitting that thing at the range with shit balls and you just about needed hearing protection

    - Callaway GBBII
My first tour issue club when I played, that thing was so consistent, hardly hit a bad drive with it.

    - Titleist 910F
Remember being amazed how much further this went than Cally GBBII, still have it.

    1. PGF Ziggy Persimmon with X100 driver shaft. Dumb name, but my first love as a driver.
    2. XXIO from around the late 1990s/early 2000s. The first driver I remembering hitting which it was noticeably longer than my existing one. No idea what the shaft was.
    3. Ping i15 with Proforce V2. Awesome driver. Loved it, but it wasn't the most forgiving if your swing was a bit off. Still probably gave me the longest drives of any club. Just not every time.
    4. Cobra LTD Pro with Oban Kiyoshi Gold. Replaced the i15 as it was just almost as long and way more forgiving, and I didn't think anything would beat it.
    5. Callaway Rogue Sub-Zero. Love this driver with a Hzardus Yellow 6.5. As long as the i15, but much more consistent and simply suits my swing.

Me too! I might be wrong, but wasn't it the one that really started the driver craze? I remember so many people drooling over it.

I don't think I can get to 5, but 3 of my favourites:
    1. PGF Big Bubba - one of my first & I somehow ended up with two of them with different shafts.
    2. Callaway Great Big Bertha - cost me a fortune with an upgraded shaft when they first came out. But long and straight.
    3. Wilson Killer Whale with a Firestick shaft - loved the look of that shaft.

Some great clubs in this list. Was surprised that anyone else liked the Ping i15, as everything I read seems to consider it a complete dud.

    1. TaylorMade 2007 Burner TP 8.5 (tour issue) black evenflow 6.5 - the best driver I have ever hit, ever. The shaft is probably keeping it up with current offerings but the feel is second to none.

    Then in no order:

    2. PGF chief with proforce gold 75. I smashed this ugly duckling of a driver for a long time.

    3. Titleist 975J proforce XL - noticed a big jump in distance over the maxfli titanium driver I had at the time

    4. Adams 9016D 7.5 with graph PM702 proto. My first driver i was 'fit' for as it was from a LD member on here at Milperra driving range off ball flight alone. Cost me a lot! Smashed it for ages until the shaft broke. Still have the head somewhere I think.

    5. Tony Penna persimmon driver. My first bought driver from a driving range where a Bunnings is now. I still love hitting that club!

Clay Ballard of Top Speed Golf on YouTube said he’s been using the i15 with Axivcore shaft for the last 9 years. It was a good one. Wish I kept the head when the shaft snapped.
