    Default Kuchar v caddie

Was just reading on FB, that Kuchar had a substitute caddie for an event in Mexico late last year when his own caddie was committed elsewhere. He won the tournament, his first win in 4 years. Apparently paid the caddie $5k, from a purse of $1.26 mill.

Should be cough up more? Read some comments saying that even $50k would be fair. His own caddie would have gotten 10%.

Bloody oath he should pay more. What a tight ass! He had won about US$50 mill in career prize money alone. I reckon anything over $75K would be fair in this instance.

“he had agreed with Kuchar on a somewhat nebulous figure before the tournament: $3,000, plus an unspecified cut of his winnings”

He got what he was promised. Done deal.

Plenty of talk on Twitter about him being known as a tightarse. This whole thing makes him look pathetic and flushes that rep out into the open. He has to do better than $5k. It’s reasonable to not pay him the full 10% as a regular tour caddie does more than just carry the bag for 4 days a week, but paying the man 0.4% of the winnings is insulting. It’s a rounding error. Kuch is a douche.

So the unspecified bit was Kuchar saying I'll give you some extra if I win, but never actually saying what that extra would be?

And I wouldn't think a 1 event caddie puts in as much effort as a full time caddy, so I think 10% might be asking a little much. At the end of the day, the caddie took the deal, and then when Kuchar offered to quadruple his pay, the caddy declined.

He was only offered $5k total after the win originally. When it all blew up a few weeks ago Kuch/agent offered $15k to make him go away. He turned that down and stuck to his original request of $50k total. Kuch’s agent then told him he gets nothing. The agent is an idiot. Should have just paid the extra $30k to make it all go away.

“Kuchar hit pay dirt without long-time caddie John Wood on the bag. As Kuchar was a late Mayakoba entrant, Wood had already RSVP'd to a reunion, sending Kuch searching for a substitute loop.“

Surely his long time caddy could have cancelled a reunion invite?

    This has zero relevance.

Maybe Kuchar was going to put the money towards building a wall, and it would solve everything.

Totally agree. The caddie agreed to a figure before the event and now he sees dollar signs and doesn't mind dragging Kucher's name through the mud to get it.

Golfwrx going ballistic on this, its guns drawn at 10 paces with the Kuchar can do whatever he wants with his money gang vs he's a colossal tight arse mob.

Think it might be a little cultural that the "he's a tight arse" are only leading by a small margin, presume there would be little sympathy for him out here.

Possibly the whole American tipping/service culture makes it a little personal. They even get fired up on the "should you tip your club repairer" thread.

66% tip would be more than any of those idiots pay.

He also got paid 600% more than he would have if the tourny wasn't in town, and he was caddying for regular joes off the street.
