No it is about an agreement to pay an unspecified amount in the case of a win. In kuchars mind it appears .2% was what he was thinking, the caddy who knows.

I remember Sergio winning on the Asian Tour with a local caddie and I'm sure all the caddie did was carry his bag.

A regular Caddie DOES NOT get paid only a %.

What’s lost is when Steinberg offered him $15k he said keep it unless it was $50k El Loco negotiating hard.

If that was my option, I'd be pretty sure I'd keep it. As I suspect Kuchar will too.

I’m of the opinion of the 1.3, Kuch keeps maybe 600-700k with Tax and paying out his team, flicking the caddie a extra $10k at the time might have diffused this whole thing, but old mate has obviously been spoken to by someone.

That's exactly what it's about. Seems odd that you didn't get a response...

I’m 100% behind Kuch on this.

The caddie agreed to the arrangement and if he thought it wasn’t enough, he should have turned down the job at the start.

A resort caddie who is not overly proficient in English is supposed to negotiate all the contract nuances with a 20 year tour pro...…...ok

How about he agrees to a wage for his services (via the resort manager) and trusts the multi millionaire player to do the right thing in the event they have a top 10/20 or in the unlikely event they have a win.

Kuchar can do whatever he wants with his money, even to the point of giving El Tucan cash post the event, but I can also call him a tight git.

How many contract nuances could there be? Instead of his normal caddying job “Hey mate do you want $200 to carry the bag today?”, it’s “Hey mate do you want $3,000 to carry the bag for 4 days?”

That is the whole point here. It is unclear if a percentage for a win was discussed.

If it was and an unspecified % was agreed then .2% seems very low imo. If 10% is normal for long term caddy then somewhere closer to 5% seems ok. Especially when you are worth 50 mill.

So is this a human rights/fair work practice issue?

Cam Percy just paid a ring in caddy almost $3K for winning $25K last week.

It is an unwritten law on tour that you pay your caddy appropriately. All the players know what a fair amount is and $5K is not it.

He has lost a lot of respect with a lot of people for this.

From memory, quite a few pros liked the original tweet or report that brought this story to the masses.

I've still yet to see any comment on whether the caddy was any good. It is entirely possible Kuch overcame his poor performance, and paid him accordingly.

The caddies pay isn't performance based, it's a set percentage

And he got more than what was agreed.

Until we know the “unspecified percentage” this comment is not fact.

If they agreed on a certain percentage and he did not pay this, then the story changes.

I would have expected Kuch to try and keep up the nice guy image.

His immediate response was surprising considering his image.

Was the Andrew Coltart “incident” an early indicator of the real Kuch?
