It wouldn’t even be a story if Kuch missed the cut, or finished 40th or something like that.
But he didn't finish 40th or miss the cut. He made over a million bucks.

Why give some random caddy who Kuch has probably never met $50k if they agreed on something else?

Why didn't the caddy agree to be paid 10% of the prize money before accepting the job?

Not sure slandering an entire country proves any point?

Because the guy helped him win over a million. Interesting to see some people's character, or lack of it.

How much do you think Kuchar should have paid that caddy?

If you get your house renovated, and you sell it for $500,000 more than that renovation costs, how much do you personally go back and give the plumber?

Minimum $50K. If after the tournament he'd said to the caddy "We agreed on this but here's 50 grand as a thank you for helping me win" he looks like a good guy rather than an incredibly cheap tool.

“Ortiz said that Kuchar said at the start of the tournament that he would be paid $3,000 for the week, plus an unspecified percentage of his winnings.”

We read it on the internet so it must be true “Ortiz, who goes by “El Tucan,” told Golf.com’s Michael Bamberger that as a local caddie he understands he was not going to make the same amount as Kuchar’s usual caddie and that he had agreed with Kuchar on a somewhat nebulous figure before the tournament: $3,000, plus an unspecified cut of his winnings. Eventually, Ortiz said, Kuchar’s camp offered him another $15,000 to bring his total to $20,000, a nice payday for a guy who told Bamberger he makes $200 on a good day during his usual caddie rounds, but still short of the $50,000 bonus Ortiz believes his help was worth.“

Is that a commonly accepted practice? Funny, I've never heard of that. It's pretty common for a player to pay a caddy 10% if he wins.

Only full time caddies. One off locals rarely, if ever, get that.

So using, and winning with a local caddy isn't a common thing either, so paying him extra is no more relevant than paying your plumber the same.

Dunno. You’re the one talking about common practice.

This is from the competitor fact sheet for the Ladies Aus open on now.

This. 3k plus an "unspecified" amount! Does that mean Kuchar said if we do ok I'll give you some more. It sounds to me that what the actual amount over the 3k would be was never said. After winning, Kuchar decided the amount was 2k. That's how it reads to me.

That seems to be exactly how it happened however caddie man may have assumed he was getting 10%
