    Default 2019 European Tour

Even though the Euro Tour technically started in Hong Kong two months ago, the real action starts today in Abu Dhabi (yes, a Wednesday start).

All the good Euro's are back after a decent break, and Dustin Johnson and Brooks Koepka so far in the morning field.

Bushy will be happy to see and hear on-course interviews, too.

had a great interview with Dustin post round, I really liked his comment 'just keep hittin it till it comes good' has faith in his own swing without the need to tinker around

Interesting watching the highlights of the 3rd round this morning.

Alvaro Quiros figuring out what to do on his second on 18, Jay Townsend in the fairway and Bryson flies 3wood over Jays head. Commentary team was laughing.

Then just after Alvaro hits his second in the piss, Lucas Herbert’s drive rolls past right in front of him. Quiros gesturing the little f***er to get in the water

Was apparently the second time they’d hit into them in the round.

I'm being a bit Captain Obvious here, but Bryson is a star.

To blow away a very good field on a course he hadn't seen before is a real statement to the world of golf.

He's still a bit of a peanut on the greens though. He thinks every putt he ever hits should have gone in. A lot of them did though, with the flag in mostly.

This is an interesting one. I was watching live at the time, and I didn't even realise this had occurred.

While I could have put this in the 2019 rules thread, this rule is very unlikely to affect us on the course (because we don't have caddies), so it might fit better here.

The on-the-spot impact is 100k, but with Race to Dubai points and world ranking points affected as well, it is a very severe penalty, and in my view, not what the rule was intended to prevent. But perhaps you need a heavy-handed approach to get the message across, then no player will ever go close to transgressing again.

It’s been a slow burn, but Lucas Herbert is really starting to cop it for his cheating in Dubai. He has attempted, quite poorly, to smooth this over but the footage is really damning.

With all the furore over Haotong Li's "penalty" he has probably managed to duck it.

Ironic that after years of deliberation on rule changes that blatant cheating is penalised in exactly the same manner as a bloke who did nothing deliberate.

Yeah, I can’t understand how he thought he was just moving the loose impediment’s.

It is not a good look, I thought his explanation wasn't that great either..

I wouldn’t call it blatant cheating, more like lazy application of removing the impediment wrongly assuming he was following the new rules.

If he had of taken 5 minutes to remove them carefully by hand I bet there’d be a furore over pace of play.

However it’s definitely a brain fade in the second event of the year under new rules, good marker for everyone else.

Every decent player knows that you cant move any sand to improve your lie or area of your intended swing. To turn the club toe down and rake the sand away to improve the lie is disgraceful. I have no problem with anyone labeling him a cheat, and he has quite rightly been condemned for it.

There was no change to the rule about improving your lie. That has been illegal longer than the kid has been alive. Other than it used to be 13-2 and is now 8-1.

    (4) Remove or press down sand or loose soil.

He takes a scoop of sand from directly behind his ball. Cheating is the only word I can think of that is appropriate.

    Default 2019 European Tour

To each his own but it doesn’t look like he’s taking a big scoop of sand to me. More like trying to brush the (fairly thick) vegetation away from the surface.

    Again... very lazy.

Agree it is too far from the ball to really assist, but it is so dumb and lazy, it almost seems blatant.

Not sure where you strike a ball, but it shouldn't be where he rakes the sand..
