I'm with you Bigbad. I know I was/am a good player, and I don't care what these pricks think.

Haha yeah fair enough! Golf is a hard game, there's lots of "good" players out there. It's ok to admit that you are good as well, why be ashamed? Playing off 2 is ****en epic when you see some other guys try and play golf, full respect.

It is funny though playing with friends who are weekend hackers barely breaking 100s who would consider me as a "good player" since I break 90 and my bad days is when I play above 90s

    It's all subjective

Trying to define a good golfer is like the US Supreme Court defining pornography. “I know it when I see it”.

Alternatively, what Minor Threat said makes sense to me. He should know. He’s a good golfer.
Cinderella story, out of nowhere, former greenskeeper, now about to become a Masters champion..... It looks like a mirac.. It's in the hole! It's in the hole!

    Background

I used to think single figure markers were good players.
Then I became one. I am now off 5.x and I am not a good player, but a home track hero who chops it up.

What defines a good player? Singles, scratch, your 9 time Club Champ like Boonie?
I think someone u can break 80 everytime.

A good player is someone who can wear Hatchman style golf trousers and nobody even notices because they are admiring his game.

I'm not sure whether Hatchman in his golden age ever achieved that status.

I think to be called a "good" player you should be off no more than 4 or 5 under the current handicap system (which flatters a lot of blokes into thinking they are great players) maintained all year round. How you hit it, what are your strengths and weakness doesn't really matter - its all about how you put together a score and being able to do it away from your home track too. Sadly, "single figures" doesn't mean much anymore, as a 9 handicap is equivalent to about 12 under the old pre slope/8 out of 20 system etc. You only need a couple of scores in the high 70's off the midweek forward tees to get to that level and stay there.

    So I would say:

+3 or better = elite level
+2 to scratch = excellent golfer
    1-3 very good golfer
    4-5 good golfer
    6-10 better than average golfer
    11 -15 average golfer
    16+ chopper/spastic/crap golfer etc

I can say this with confidence; when Hatchy gets going (now an occasion rather than often) and starts rolling putts he plays well above the ability of a 6 handicap

21, you sure a golf thread is for you?

I do live for the time I'm getting a double shot, hopefully I get there before I die...………...or not.

Oh trust me, I aint ever gonna be in the above categories (other than golfing retard).

PS: playing golf on one leg for two years might get you to double bunger territory

Well, I am in FNQ. Point taken. I'm referring to the standard 36 stableford points without all the other handicap calculation factors.

TC, its kinda what I fear, boys are starting to get bad backs, knees, wrist problems etc etc. Handicaps are on the way out.

They go out, but once the player finds a new adjusted swing (as in my case) they come back in
