Watched the whole roun live on Foxtel, and have to say Schauffle was very impressive.

I never realised how long he was off the tee also, often leaving Leishman in the shade.

    Great win !

This might be worth keeping in mind for later on, when the WGC's are scheduled to take place.

I've often felt some of the players didn't really want to play the WGC's, and they were sort of forced to play. Now that a prominent player has said he may not play any of them, we'll see if the floodgates open.

Realistically, Firestone was the only WGC with any sense of tradition and prestige, and now it has gone that entire concept might fall apart.

I'm not sure the really top guys even care about ranking points. Justin Rose and Brooks Koepka don't seem to care whether they are the official number 1 or not.

The Fedex Cup points might be more relevant though in the case of the St Jude, so it may still attract all the top 10, particularly as the Fedex Cup is using a very confusing carry-over points system this year. I guess we'll just have to wait and see whether that works or not.

I suspect Jordan Spieth won't be skipping the WGC's. He might start to need the ranking points just to get into events if he keeps missing cuts, like this one in Hawaii.

Bubba missed the cut, too. Maybe he needs to change golf ball brand again.

The views at Waiʻalae were pretty good but they can’t compete with the views on the Web.com tour this week.

    Sandals Emerald Bay looks amazing.

The other cool thing is there are guys mic’d up, some cool conversations.

Poor precious PGA Tour pros can’t even take 30seconds to do on air interviews as they walk off the tee.

Hope Kuch remembers to pay his caddie this week.
Cinderella story, out of nowhere, former greenskeeper, now about to become a Masters champion..... It looks like a mirac.. It's in the hole! It's in the hole!

    Yes and no.

I always like to hear the caddie conversations, and the chat between the players.

But they have been doing on-course interviews on the Euro Tour and the Aussie Tour, and they are always as dull as dishwater. They always say the same thing.

Good win by Kuch today. It must have been the form boost he picked up from playing in Australia.

Lots of people are complaining about how far the ball goes, and how the new young bombers are dominating the game. Kuchar is providing solid evidence that there is nothing to worry about.

The best thing about the mics on guys like Mac McNealy was the conversation in between shots. There was an exchange where he was talking about the views another about “if I owned that house I’d shift it left 10m”, stuff that you never normally hear. Hearing his commentary after shots while the ball is in the air was funny and engaging.

    Self deprecating humour.

Bushy, McNealys family could probably afford to shift the house, his old man has a bit of coin.

He didn’t know until he was almost a teenager and his old man told him they were very rich.

Also told him if he didn’t act like he had nothing, he’d get nothing

Yeah I was aware of that. I’ve followed him since he was in college. He’s done a podcast with NLU where he explained the money thing and it’s obvious advantages trying to make it as a tour pro.

He obviously has something to fall back on but he seems a pretty grounded kid.

Thanks Bushy, good listen, they do a good job the NLU guys.

He got all a bit pseudo babble American in the middle around "his purpose" but as you say seems like a pretty good bloke.

Just getting enjoyment watching the Desert Classic, with entertainment from Phil. His short game is always good to watch.

I’m a bit of a George Gankas fan and by proxy a fan of Matt Wolff. Have a look at some of these stats from his first round on the PGA Tour. Currently T11 at -4 and 3 back from the lead.
