Which college was this? The one he eventually went to or the one he got booted from.

The only relevant fact is the video evidence which clearly shows Reed cheating. If the best he can come up with is “the video angle makes it look worse” then he has no defence. Same as with Lucas Herbert earlier in the year. Disgraceful behaviour from two professionals who should know better.

I was wrong on this. It only needs to be potentially of assistance for Rule 8.1 to apply. Also of note is that intent is not part of the assessment.

When I take a practice swing it’s usually away from the ball . Reed starts his from behind the ball and then he pulls it a foot inside on the way down . Funny how he did it twice , funny how both times he drags it back and knocks the hump down . To me the second practice swing was because he didn’t get enough sand the first time . Either way I am not a fan of most of the american players. My opinion of course.

But my question is. Does he do this same practice swing for every chip or is it just when he is in the shit?

It's wild that anyone can actually defend what he's done in that waste area. I mean it's pretty visible to everyone that he improved his lie, camera angle or not. Drags two lots of sand away from behind his ball, which gives him a far better AoA in to his shot. He did it in 2015 also and that is on camera. Call it what you will, a rules breach, cheating or whatever you like, but he's done it before and clearly did it again. Shows the character of him.

Did you watch the entire video? Too busy frothing at the mouth to see how steeply he took it back?

    How is it “clearly cheating”?

Not according to this angle of the ball sitting in the hole after he’s done all this shoveling and sweeping of the sand.

I personally don’t like Reed, sounds like the rest of humanity doesn’t either and the action is clearly a penalty but the response to it here has been a bit of an eye opener.

Yeah I don't like Reed either and the action is a penalty and is also cheating. I don't know why some people don't want to use the word to describe it that way?

I mean he clearly knows what he's doing, and has a history of doing the exact same thing in another waste area.

    Everyone does it.

They all leave their wedge sitting on the grass behind their ball for a few extra seconds or pick it up and put it down a few times before playing off the fringe or out of the rough.

Because he scrapes the sand twice. Once could possibly have been accidental, but twice leaves no doubt as to the intent. And the intent was to break the rule to gain an advantage, which is clearly cheating.

    True.

But still does not answer my question. Does he still take this same practice swing? Doesn't excuse what he did in the waste area but I'm just interested.

Watched what was up on a news feed , doesn’t matter , he knocked sand back twice , if his actual shot was from a steeper angle , why practice two shots by dragging the club thru the mound behind . Once would tell you you had to come in steep . Twice implies I didn’t get enough the first time , a steeper angle of attack suggests I still didn’t get enough but I better not try a third practice swing someone might notice . It’s a penalty and he appears to be dodgy and by all accounts he has history. How popular was his big win ? No one cheered in his home club , smoke fire ?

angry posts on social media catch more attention than nice posts. (but nice posts in response to angry posts do well too)

Does anyone know exactly how close to the ball was the spot where he grounding it? the images Bushy shows dont indicate any obvious spot, that crater looks untouched to me.

Seen that already Yoss, that doesnt answer my question how close to the ball did he ground the club.

Noticed also in video that automatically followed the rules official made it clear he was penalised for improving his *line*, he emphasised that it wasnt the lie. that seemed to be an important distinction that he made, but on reading the rules I dont understand that, when another rule seemed to be the one clearly broken https://www.randa.org/en/rog/2019/ru.../rule-12#12-2b touching the sand with a practice swing.

    It wasn’t a bunker.
