Won't be backing the Tony Brassel selections (SkyRacing tipster who gives you the favourites in almost every race)

I will be having a bit on Snedecker, he's 60/1 on Betfair, certainly in form after the Canadian and has won twice at Pebble. Doesn't drive it overly straight given he doesn't exactly bomb it so depends on how bad the rough is.

You only get paid if you bet on the winner.

Frankly, apart from the favourites I have no idea who the smokeys at good odds might be. Pebble in US Open set up is very different to the regular tour course, so form is hard to follow. It isn't a bombers course, so anyone who you think might have a good four days can be a good bet.

After all, Graeme McDowell won and Gregory Havret finished second last time, but I do recall DJ as being in contention for a long time. Do I dare mention J Spieth as a possible good bet at odds? I think I might place a small wager and cheer for him just for the irritation factor.

The course has baked under record temperatures for this time of year this week (35plus) so will be firm and fast.

Then the temps will drop to high teens for the event, with 30kmh winds for the last round. It could be carnage out there if the place is crispy....

I thought it was a good first round of the US Open. The course played fairly. Good shots were rewarded, and bad shots required some serious recovery skills.

I'm going to make a prediction that will almost certainly come back to haunt me. I thought Justin Rose was lucky to shoot his score, and I can't see him putting so well in the rest of the event. So put your house on him.

I didn't see the early play, so I can't make outlandish statements about the other leaders, but as my betting strategy looks doomed already (I went away from the favourites and took fliers on Webb Simpson and Matt Kuchar for top 10), I'll be cheering for Rickie to break through.

I went with Xander and Stenson.

I'm more interested in the winning score. What did everyone predict/expect before they hit off ?

Not quite as good as the Lucas Bjerregaard 11 and a driver helicopter into the drink, but still note worthy.

All 30 players who have played 2 holes are over par for the day! Could be an OZgolf event.

Sat at the 10th tee for a few hours and watched the leaders smoke drives. Was breezy and COLD today.

And saw some old "has beens" on 4 and 5

Crowds crazy for Tiger all day

Brilliant shots. Nothing like watching pros flush balls all day to confirm how mediocre the rest of us are.

Was a day of surges and falls. Amazing energy at the course.

Arrived early and checked a few early holes before camping in the grandstand at 14 and watching the whole field come through.

14 was decisive with Brooks failing to make birdie after missing the fwy and then a pulled wedge 3rd and Woodland smoking a fwd wood to the edge of the green right in front of us for an easy chip and putt birdie.

Then followed last group home. Amazing roar for Woodland when he holed the putt on 18

Here's a random few phone snaps.
