Not for me - I'm playing at Royal Blackwood on the preceding day. That will do me.
Webster, Thaxted is an interesting club.
They struggle for money, but always have a membership that enjoy playing, invariably with some good young juniors.
There are some ordinary holes (due to the land) but there are a number of good holes - moreso than the neighboring metropolitan clubs. Conditioning is variable due to water issues (might be better now) and clay soils. Greens have always been interesting. I'd rather play at Thaxted than at Flagstaff - much better routing.
It isn't worth a special visit though
I came third in a Thaxted Park Cup in about 1976.
For me the good holes start when you get into the valley on the back nine. #12 is my pick of the bunch, but like Sandy Creek #1 (now #3 with the stupid new routing) I have no idea why the club didn't follow the lie of the land and put a small undulating green in the back right hand corner as opposed to cutting a flat disk at the top of the ditch
Played Blackwood the other week, how amazing would #15 be if they moved the green further up the hill and to the left, there is a pocket of land there that you could squeeze a green into and would bring the dam more into play

At this point in time the groups are full - 7 yays, 1x dark pencil, plus an 'interested'.
Bomber55:- if you do want to play then you can have my spot, I'll just venture out for a walk (doesn't bother me, done it plenty of times before)

The back nine is pretty good (except for the uphill 11). In America, they would describe the creek as a barranca.
The front nine has good holes, but the uphill 2/3 are always a problem, and the downhill 5th (6th?) has never really worked for me - I haven't seen the latest 'road hole' version.
Thaxted always encouraged some 'ground game', with interesting greens/surrounds and limited bunkers (a good idea given the very heavy soils which make creating interesting bunkers difficult and expensive). Firm greens and surrounds with some undulation make for interesting and inexpensive golf.
PS I think Thaxted was routed by the same person who subsequently routed Coomealla near Mildura - Hartley did the greens but not the routing.
PPS I'll show you the Clayton/Cocking/Sloan Blackwood masterplan from 2005 one day TC. Some of it went into the ground, but some was binned. Pity.

Last time I said I was interested I finished up in hospital. Guess what? Tomorrow will be my last game for quite a while as my surgeon rang on Tuesday and has booked me in for the 15th. No golf for at least 3 months. Have fun guys.

Ross Putland routed both courses. Coomealla has better soil and better water availability though.
I think Ross was involved in the admin at Marino GC back then (1960's, 1970's). Marino is now The Vines.

Long range weather forecast is looking good for next Sunday boys, mid 20's and not the 40's we are getting at the beginning of the week.
I re-gripped the Cobra Persimmon 2 wood and 4 wood ready for the day.
Taking the odd numbered vintage Titleist irons 3,5,7,9 Wedge and Sand Iron
Also found the Ping Anser 4. The Grip is completely shagged but no full swings are required (it's not chipper ) so it will do for the day.
Anyone have a second hand Ping Man Putter Grip they want to move on?
Now all you need is a balata ball.
Or I can try and find a glitter ball for you.

Once you go yellow, you will never go back
Looking forward to giving the Koooch putter a run for the first time on Sunday
He won on the weekend so hopefully that is an omen

I’m really sorry guys but I’m gonna have to drop out of Sunday
My mother in law is expected to pass away in the next few days and need to be at my wife’s side

That's 2 dropping out - to the remainder, want to cancel as I really don't care!?
Still have the ability to play as 2 x3balls

I'm the other one out. Can't believe 2 cancel before coalesce does, the bluest of moons

I'm still in.
Need to open the account for rounds in 2019. What better place than Glitter City
