Pin in for the whole round tomorrow?

I'm waiting for first golf ball company to come out with flag deflection control technology.

No way I'm going to put the flag back it for someone who prefers to putt with it in.

Perhaps you don't get them back so you can't mark someone elses ball again. I'm not sure I'd be too happy with you doing that during a round. I'm not even sure it's allowed is it? I thought only the player (and now the players caddie) is allowed to mark and or replace a ball on the green.

Just to clarify, does the new drop in fairway +2 penalty shots apply to both OOB and lost ball in bounds? I thought it only applied to OOB but just want to clarify. Could be quite useful where I play too, mostly for a lost ball in bounds.

Will help a lot on the back nine at that place. Although we used took get issues at the third there sometimes also but mainly there back nine for sure.

OOB on 13 and 16 are about the only places it’d get used on the back 9.

There aren’t really many places on the course you can lose a ball if it’s not OOB or in a hazard.

As of 1 Jan whatever you want it to be. We’re choosing not to call them penalty areas

    Great

So now every time you visit a club, you need to read the local rules to see if the Irish Drop is in play.

Our committee have declared it is not in play and available to comp players.

You don’t check the board when you are visiting a different club anyway?

No, most cards have local rules on them. I sure don't look to see what Rules of Golf they ignore or choose to implement anyway.

I wouldn’t mind it once a round if I was a decent distance from the green and everyone was waiting on my behalf.

If it was happening multiples times, it would get a “don’t touch my ****ing ball” pretty quickly from me.

Yep, agreed. If I was lagging behind badly OK, but otherwise, not cool.

I would average maybe 1 in about 3 rounds (marking another’s ball). Only if it was impeding my line and the player was raking a bunker etc.

All I have ever got is thankyou’s so maybe we are not so precious in SA

    Yeah fair enough.

Not about being precious. I could say your being presumptuous buy doing it. It's all about perspective.

Generally noticed it when I play in a weekend club game, and when it happens to me, the other guy would ask me first if I would like them to mark the ball for me while I am far away....

I would do the same too, just to be polite....

Watching the uspga golf today, appears like the new rules are in, low drops, picking up crap in bunkers and putting with the pin in.

I mark others balls regularly, as I always carry two ball markers.

When they are cleaning up a bunker or walking the 50m around the green to leave their buggy in the right spot, it saves time.

I cant stand slow play though.

The rules just state that you ask the player each time you want to do it. As long as permission is given, it's all good. It's a good idea for pace of play.
